After being pulled from his starting position after an ineffective first half against the Panthers, NFL quarterback Justin Fields shared that his foundation is firm in the Lord.
“I’ve always asked God to give me an opportunity and a platform to spread His word and sometimes it doesn’t always play out the way you plan it. I think the position I’m in right now is a great opportunity to spread that message and really kind of get the world to know how I feel about Him and how great He is… God’s been with me through the ups and downs,” Fields told reporters after the game. “And I’m probably at a low right now and I think the old me would feel some certain kind of way, it’s just now my faith is so rooted in Christ to where it’s like… nothing can break me.”

Field’s faith has become more real in recent years as he has allowed the Lord to lead his heart, rather than trying to force the Lord’s will to fit his own desires. In August, Fields shared that reading the Bible has become a daily habit for him, as he gleans new insights each day that shape how he lives his life.
“I’ve been getting closer to God – reading the Bible every day, building that relationship,” Fields said. “There’s so much wisdom and so many great lines I didn’t even know about. Honestly, I’m low-key addicted to like getting my Bible each and every day because I learn something new every day, and I’m able to apply it to my everyday life.”
“I was sleeping on the Bible earlier in my life,” Fields added. “I wish I had started sooner. I encourage everyone to just read a little bit and go from there.”
Field’s decision to lean on the Lord as his career takes a downturn is reminiscent of Tim Tebow ,who relied on the Lord throughout his entire NFL career. Now that he is no longer in the league, the platform football gave him has allowed him to reach millions with the word of the Lord, while being away from football has given him the freedom to pursue Gospel-inspired missions like serving those impacted by human trafficking.
“Thank you to the Jaguars organization and everyone who has supported me in this journey,” Tebow said in 2021 when the Jaguars cut him, ending his NFL career. “And we know that … God works all things together for good. Romans 8:28.”
While only the Lord knows what is in store for Fields in the near future, it is inspiring to see how his budding faith is impacting his life as he finds his value and purpose in the Lord, rather than his starter status.
