Hope Over Comfort: BACHELOR Star Learns to Trust God Through Endings

Is it possible to know when something in your life needs to end?

Former BACHELOR star Madison Prewett Troutt and author Dr. Henry Cloud recently explained how to discern if God wants you to hold on or let something go.

“The biggest enemy of your future may be today,” Dr. Cloud said on Troutt’s “Stay True” podcast. “And the best way to ask that question is, what is it in your life today that doesn’t align with the future that you want? Because what’s in our lives should always be something that is giving life.”

“It’s something that should be taking us somewhere. You’ve got to get to the moment of hopelessness. And so you got to realize, if I continue this, I really can’t have hope. I’ve got to end this so I can have some objective reasons to hope in order to get the future that you want to have,” he continued.

Troutt added, “Like, some things need to come to an end. If nothing changes, nothing changes. Like, if we don’t create and implement some endings and some habits and put some things into place, like, nothing’s going to change as we’re headed into it.”

Troutt is passionate about people breaking free from things holding them back and embracing the freedom Christ offers. In September last year, she released Dare to Be True: Defeat the Lies That Bind You and Live Out the Truth That Frees You.

“I wrote this book because I know what it’s like to feel stuck: bound by lies, burdened by past mistakes and shame, stuck in sin, and confused by the noise of the world around me,” the author wrote in a post on social media.

“Before writing my first book, before even THE BACHELOR, I chased a version of truth that I believed would lead to a happier and freer me. Instead, it led me into deeper confusion. In a culture flooded with false promises and half-truths, I found myself asking: What is truth?” she continued. “In my search for answers, I discovered a life-changing reality: we all desire freedom, yet many of us live lies. In Dare to Be True, we’ll not only explore how to break free from the lies that bind us, but also how to stay free by anchoring our lives in the Truth that never changes.”

“I wrote this book for the one who is tired of the pretending and striving, who feels isolated and hopeless, and who is bombarded with lies that leaves you to question: What’s really true? about me? About God? About life after this life?” she added. “In reading this book, you will confront what’s holding you back and break free from what is breaking you. Now is the time to experience the abundant life you were made for — a life of true freedom.”

As we begin 2026, ask God if there’s any aspect of your life that you need to surrender to Him.
