New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson got candid about the reality of heaven and hell.

“One of the biggest lies of the devil that this world is deceived by is that everyone ‘rests in peace’ once they pass away,” Henderson wrote in a post on his social media page. “Jesus says that the highway to hell is wide, and the gateway to life is very narrow.”

Jesus said this in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Henderson continued his post: “Hell is a real place where Jesus doesn’t describe resting, but a place where there is torment and pain, Luke 16:24. A place where there is ‘weeping and gnashing of teeth,’ Matthew 13:42. For those who reject Jesus Christ for who He truly is and what He’s done, and practice a lifestyle of sinning.”

The running back then referenced another Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, that discusses different sins that cause people to lose out on the Kingdom of God.

The verse reads: “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

Henderson reflected: “The sad thing is that even many people who claim to be Christians—many pastors and churchgoers—will end up in this place. These are people who did religious things and acted religious, and who knew of God but never had a personal relationship with Jesus and never surrendered their hearts to Him.”

Despite that harsh reality, there is hope for the broken.

Jesus does not “want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent,” 2 Peter 3:9 reads.

Henderson concluded his post: “God doesn’t want you to perish but to turn from your wicked ways and turn to the One who loves you and laid down His life for you. Following this world will lead you to hell, but through Jesus you can be forgiven for all your sins and receive eternal life.”

As Christ followers, two roads lead to eternal life: the narrow road, which leads to life, and the broad road, which leads to death. Henderson wants people to understand that life begins when you put your salvation in Jesus. From then on, there should be a desire to turn away from the things of this world and live life on the narrow road.
