RICHARD DAWKINS VS JOHN LENNOX: THE GOD DELUSION DEBATE

THE GOD DELUSION DEBATE and HAS SCIENCE BURIED GOD? are the fascinating video records of two debates between two Oxford University giants, world renowned atheist Professor Richard Dawkins and Professor of Philosophy and Mathematics John Lennox.

In the debates, Dawkins makes fun of Christianity, especially of Jesus Christ and His resurrection, while Lennox carefully presents the case for Christ and probes Dawkins’ atheist worldview. Lennox comes off as the more intelligent, well-read, logical, gracious, kind, thoughtful person, but Dawkins is a master of put-down. He constantly associates the notion of God with magic. Whereas, Lennox constantly affirms that he doesn’t believe in magic, he believes in God, and the magnificent victory Jesus gave us in His resurrection.

Those who think logically and listen carefully will be interested in Lennox’s argument and perhaps transformed. Those who like the preening and posing and verbal cynicism and satire of Dawkins will stay in the atheist camp.

Dawkins constantly avoids the key issues. His blind, dogmatic faith in Darwin is often embarrassing. He admits he cannot account for the origin of life or the origin of the universe. He admits there are missing links in the development of evolution. He dismisses Jesus Christ and his atoning death and resurrection as something only a petty, mean spirited God would do. He refuses to use Oxford definitions for words. Instead, he has a facility in transforming faithful words into objects of derision and ridicule. He admits that in an evolutionary universe, there is no morality, but then fudges and says somehow community produces morality, almost as if by magic! He refuses to accept the fact that the majority of people killed in the 20th Century were killed by atheist governments, mainly Stalin, Mao, Poll Pot, and the other atheist, communist dictators.

Marx saw religion as the opiate of the people. He saw communism as the ultimate atheism. And, he said there could be no communism (aka International Socialism) without Darwinism, just as Hitler said there could be no National Socialism without Darwinism.

Lennox presents clear evidence that there is intelligent design and a personal God, and that man’s personality and dignity flow from his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Lennox is too Christian to go for the jugular, so he allows Dawkins to get away with a lot of fallacious arguments and unproven assertions.

Young people who have not been taught to think logically may be converted to the dark side by these debates. People who understand the truth will find a lot of arguments to support the Christian faith.
