Actress Proclaims the Gospel: Jesus Is ‘True and Eternal’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Patricia Heaton is encouraging people to put their trust in Jesus during this tumultuous time.

“Nothing in this world is trustworthy. Nothing,” she said in a recent Instagram video. “Not the government, not politicians, certainly not journalists or the media. Everybody lies. So much corruption. We’re living in a particularly crazy, eventful time where the hypocrisy is on full display.”

Heaton continued, “So my question is, if you haven’t put your trust in Jesus by now, what are you waiting for? He’s the only thing that’s true and eternal.”

The EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND actress often talks about her Christian faith. In a 2023 interview with Stephen Colbert, Heaton talked about the way God guided her acting career.

“I was here for nine years in New York. I mean nothing; I couldn’t make anything happen,” she said of her early days as an actress. “And I was so angry at God. I was like, ‘You put this in me, and You shut every door; what is going on?’”

When God did open a door, it wasn’t the one she was expecting — Heaton went to an orphanage with her church group and felt “this huge sense of peace that I never had before” as she spent time with the children.

“Then I realized that I had been making the acting career the center of my life,” she explained. “There’s one thing that could only be the center of your life and that’s your faith. And I think I wasn’t doing that, and I think God was withholding everything until I made sure that He was the center of my life and not my career. Because look, the career comes and goes. You can’t rely on those things because they don’t last. You have to know that the purpose of your life is glorifying God with your life and not glorifying yourself.”

Movieguide® previously reported on her faith:

Patricia Heaton is sharing the importance of trusting in God’s plan and accepting that “God’s in control.”

“God, in His mercy, withheld any success from me because I wanted it too much,” she said of her early career while appearing on “The Storytellers with Andrew Erwin” podcast. “[I] really wanted to be famous — acting was the center of my life, as opposed to God being the center of my life, for a long time, and it would have been ruinous for me if I had been successful any earlier than I was.”

The EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND actress continued, “I think it only happened in the timing it did because I was able to center God in my life, and when that happened, I think He knew it was safe for me to start being successful and have all the things that come with that.”

Heaton is making her return to TV with the second season of Paramount’s FRASIER reboot, reuniting with former co-star Kelsey Grammer.

“On the followup to the Emmy-winning comedy, she will play Holly who is down-to-earth, unpretentious, and openly mocking of overly-intellectual types,” Deadline reported. “A Boston native who tends bar at upscale restaurants and events, Holly is extraordinarily comfortable with both who and where she is in life, a quality that the always-climbing, always-reaching Frasier (Grammer) finds as alien as he does attractive.”
