AMERICA’S GOT TALENT Stars’ Emotional Story Will Have You in Tears
By Movieguide® Contributor
Two mothers left AMERICA’S GOT TALENT viewers in tears with their emotional performance and story of connection.
Holly, a New York school teacher, and Kim, a mom from Oregon, connected when Holly’s infant son Jake passed away in 2007.
Jake was an organ donor, and Kim’s son Beckham received his heart at just 16 days old.
The last song Holly sang to Jake was “For Good” from the musical WICKED. Kim sang the same song to Beckham after he had his heart transplant surgery.
“When Beckham was finished with his heart transplant surgery, I wasn’t allowed to hold him. I could just kind of stroke his head and the first thing I did when I stroked his head, I sang that song ‘For Good’ from WICKED,” Kim shared.
“Several years later, Kim wrote a letter to us,” Holly explained. “We kept in touch, and then we had the opportunity to meet each other for the first time, and [Kim] gave me a big hug, and it was one of the best moments of my life.”
The pair later discovered their amazing musical connection and wanted to use it to share how organ donation impacted their lives.
“We would love to spread the word about organ donation. If we could change the heart of one person, it’s worth it,” Kim told the show’s judges.
After hearing their story, Simon Cowell replied, “I don’t even know what to say. It’s such a sad story and the fact that you shared it with us. I’m a dad. I get it. That story you just told us about the same song, that’s unbelievable.”
Kim and Holly gave a powerful performance, which Howie Mandel called “the most magical moment I have ever experienced on AMERICA’S GOT TALENT.”
“I think this is a moment we’re always going to remember…this song that obviously you were meant to have between the two of you,” Sofia Vergara said.
All four judges voted for the duo to move forward in the competition.
The duo, who go by the name 2 Moms United By 1 Heart, also discuss the power of organ donation on their Instagram page.
In one post, Kim wrote, “I can’t count how many pictures over the years that I’ve taken of Beckham in this exact same situation – getting an echocardiogram on his heart – and each time I take the pictures, I thank God that he’s laying on this table alive and healthy, with a perfect angel heart beating in his chest.”
“Beckham was just over two weeks old when he got his transplant and the fact that he gets to have an ‘adult’ future means everything to our family,” she continued.
