Angel Studios, the production company behind THE CHOSEN, has repaid print and advertising investors over 100% of their original investments for the studio’s latest hit, SOUND OF FREEDOM.
Angel Studios announced in a press release that it “has paid back SOUND OF FREEDOM crowdfunding investors their original investment plus a 20% profit. A total of 6,678 people invested in the project to support the P&A (Prints & Advertising) marketing budget for the film.”
“6,678 Angel Guild members have now received $1.20 for every $1 they invested into the launch budget for SOUND OF FREEDOM, and we are thrilled to be able to get funds back to them in three months,” Neal Harmon, CEO of Angel Studios, stated. “The Angel Guild is key to our theatrical strategy and paying out as quickly as possible is always our first priority.”
Deadline reported, “Angel Studios raised $5M for the pic’s marketing through crowdfunding, the anti-child trafficking movie recently clicking past $174M in the middle of its sixth week through yesterday — more than INDIANA JONES AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY ($172.9M) and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING – PART ONE’s ($160.8M) domestic box office (the pic beat Indy this past weekend).”
Despite its success, SOUND OF FREEDOM has received backlash from many, labeling it as “conspiracy theories.”
The Los Angeles Times stated, “Child sexual exploitation and abuse is a real and horrific crime, here and across the globe, that needs to be recognized and confronted. But the embrace of the film by QAnon subscribers has potentially hijacked the movie’s intent of raising awareness and made it a rallying cry for their baseless conspiracies.”
Director Alejandro Monteverde responded, “It’s heartbreaking, and it hurts me. The minute they started labeling it with conspiracy theories, it discredits the purity of the work.”
“We cannot not label things,” Monteverde explained to the Los Angeles Times why the movie became a “lightning rod.”
“If you refuse to give your political view, they’re like, ‘No, you have to.’ But why? And that’s a question…Let the movie speak for itself,” he added.
“If you have to label my work, please watch it first, without prejudice,” the director continued. “But watch it. Federico Fellini said your job as a director is to break the prejudice that the audience already has about your product. So that was my goal on this film. ‘Let’s make a movie that explores this darkness but through a vehicle of hope,’” Monteverde concluded.

Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle recently spoke out against critics of SOUND OF FREEDOM.
“One thing I found very interesting is that people are having to defend this movie. This is insane to me that this would even be something that needs to be defended,” Daigle said on Instagram Live.
She continued, “Children being harmed should never be something we question that we need to defend or not! I saw a lot of pretty inflammatory news articles and headlines and people trying to shut this film down. I never in a million years thought that this would be something that people could actually split hairs about, that people could actually argue about.”
“It’s wild that this could remotely be a topic that people could argue debate, question, children being put in harm’s way by the people, adults that are supposed to be protecting them in life. This should never be up for question,” Daigle went on…
Daigle concluded, “God doesn’t take this stuff lightly. So for every person who is out there that thinks that this movie is just stupid people trying to praise QAnon, or whatever the stupid conspiracy is, you got something else coming for you because this is not something that God takes lightly.”
