BLUE BLOODS Star Donnie Wahlberg Calls Fans ‘Family’ Ahead of Possible Finale

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actor Donnie Wahlberg recently revealed that he and his BLUE BLOODS co-stars agreed to take a 25 percent pay cut to give fans a proper finale.

In an interview with People Wahlberg spoke on the possibility of the show being canceled without a proper finale.

“I love Blue Bloods, and I think if there weren’t a season 14, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very outraged,” Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, said. “They’re part of the Reagan family. The audience is the extended family.”

Wahlberg continued, “If the show were to go away without [the audience] having a proper sendoff … I think they would be mortified.”

“So, I suspect [we’ll] have at least another season,” Wahlberg added.

Movieguide® recently nominated an episode of BLUE BLOODS at the Movieguide® Awards for its patriotic and pro-family themes.

A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the Season 12 finale reads:

“Silver Linings,” the 12th season finale of CBS-TV’s BLUE BLOODS, is another intense, superb drama about a family bringing justice to New York City. Police Sergeant Jamie Regan and his late brother’s son, Joe, a detective, work a case together to find an immigrant woman’s teenage daughter, who’s been sex trafficked. Jamie’s wife is upset when a knife-wielding thief she helped arrest is let go because of the DA’s new sentencing guidelines. Danny Regan and his partner fight to get justice for a woman in witness protection who was murdered. Police Commissioner Frank Regan and his daughter, Erin, criticize the DA’s new guidelines, which clearly put citizens and police in danger.

BLUE BLOODS: “Silver Linings” is exciting, heartfelt and uplifting. It has a strong Christian, moral, patriotic, conservative worldview. For example, it promotes faith in Jesus, prayer, thankfulness, courage, justice, and the rule of law. It does this in a confident, dramatic way that’s not shrill. It also contains pro-capitalist, biblical elements supporting private property and free enterprise. However, “Silver Linings” has some foul language and violent situations. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.

BLUE BLOODS has officially been renewed for its 14th season after the cast and crew agreed to a 25 percent pay cut.

The Hollywood Reporter reports, “the stars and key producers all agreed to the pay reduction in order to keep the Friday night cop drama running and keep the hundreds of production staffers employed for another season.”

“BLUE BLOODS has dominated Friday nights since its premiere and remained an important anchor for CBS’ winning lineup,” said Amy Reisenbach, CBS Entertainment president. “Led by the outstanding Tom Selleck, and an incredible cast and creative team, viewers continue to embrace the Reagans, their law enforcement family, and the series’ dramatic storytelling. We can’t wait to pull a chair up to the Reagan family dinner table for another fantastic season.”

The renewal makes BLUE BLOODS the network’s second-longest-running current scripted series after NCIS, which was recently renewed for its 21st season.

“The drama remains one of CBS’ most watched originals and anchors its Friday night primetime lineup. The show is broadcast’s No. 3 drama in total viewers, averaging more than 9.5 million per episode. With delayed viewing, that number grows to top 11 million,” The Hollywood Reporter adds.

Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes and Len Cariou will all return along with Selleck for this upcoming season.
