Singer Proclaims a Relationship With Jesus Will Transform Everything

Worship leader Brandon Lake recently discussed how worldly relationships compare to our relationship with the Lord and how a relationship with God can be transformational.

“Do you realize the way I feel about my kids, and parents if you have kids you know, that is a fraction of how God feels about you,” Lake said. “It breaks His heart the things that happen to you, the things that you did, but it would never keep Him from wanting you to come home, arms wide open. He is waiting for you. He wants to clean up your mess and He wants you to live a holy and righteous life. But it’s step-by-step. You don’t figure it out like that. It all starts with a personal relationship with Him.”

This incredible realization that the Lord has a genuine desire to have a personal relationship with us has inspired many of Lake’s songs. His hit “Gratitude,” for example, describes how Christians should respond to this news. In all of his music, he attempts to point listeners back to God and help them express the thankfulness they have for his grace.

“The gift, though, of doing this and laboring through it and making sure that [my music] is biblically sound…I didn’t go to seminary, and so a lot of times, I feel unworthy,” Lake said last November while on tour. “Like, ‘God, how could I possibly be a pen [and] express these scriptures in a fresh way, or a way that’s relevant to our culture nowadays?’”

“I just am trying to be open, just stay open, and somehow, God just drops things in my spirit. I think it’s a good weight because it’s a heavy responsibility,” he continued. “That is crazy to me, that God would allow me to be part of something that would change people’s lives in any way, and I think that’s what keeps me doing it.”
