Bruce Willis’ Family Opens Up About His Dementia Battle
By Movieguide® Contributor
Bruce Willis’ daughter Tallulah shared an update on the actor’s health.
Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in early 2023.
“When she does see her dad, Tallulah admits it’s important for her ‘to go into it open to what the visit is, and knowing that before I go in, I’m solid. I’m okay,’ she allows. ‘I’ve done what I need to do to make sure that I can just be present,’” PEOPLE reported.
Tallulah noted that not much has changed in terms of his health.
“For now, Bruce is ‘doing the same in terms of the last we kind of updated, which I’m told is good,’ adds Tallulah. ‘But whatever kind of day it is, my family and I meet him where he’s at.’”
Willis’ oldest daughter, Rumer, has also spoken out about her father’s health recently. In an Instagram Q&A on Aug. 22 when asked how her father is doing, she responded, “He is great. I love him so much. Thank you.”
Frontotemporal dementia occurs when “parts of these lobes shrink, known as atrophy,” the Mayo Clinic explains. “Symptoms depend on which part of the brain is affected. Some people with frontotemporal dementia have changes in their personalities. They become socially inappropriate and may be impulsive or emotionally indifferent. Others lose the ability to properly use language.”
Movieguide® previously reported on how Willis’ diagnosis has affected his family:
Bruce Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis has opened up about how the actor’s frontotemporal dementia diagnosis is affecting their family and why they decided to share the news publicly.
“I could breathe, you know, I could really exhale and sort of just feel this weight sort of lift from my shoulders, but everything changed for the better once we were able to disclose his diagnosis,” she said of when they decided to share his diagnosis. “I was able to see the support that I so desperately needed for my husband, for our whole family…”
Willis was first diagnosed with aphasia in 2022, but the diagnosis progressed.
Heming Willis explained how she believed sharing his diagnosis with others was important.
Our prayers are with the actor and his family as he continues his battle.
