Can God Use Bitcoin? These Filmmakers Say Yes

By Movieguide® Contributor

The directors of GOD BLESS BITCOIN are sharing why they’re encouraging people to bet on Bitcoin.

“I wrote a book called Thank God for Bitcoin four years ago, and it covered the Christian view, and it just made me curious. Like, what do all the other world religions [say] about [Bitcoin]? So I dove into it,” Brian Estes told Movieguide®. “I went to Kelly [Estes] who…has her master’s degree in education, and I was like, ‘Can you help me tell this story? I kind of want to make a movie and spread the word,’ and she agreed.”

He added, “We like to build things together, so this is just something we wanted to build together.”

A synopsis of Thank God for Bitcoin reads, “Thank God for Bitcoin explores the ways in which the current monetary system is broken and what can be done to fix it. It explores the creation of money, its corruption and its potential redemption. It looks at how Bitcoin is redeeming the ills of our corrupt monetary system and how the ongoing transition to sound money is a source of hope for a broken world.”

“I could get behind [the project] because I’m a teacher by trade and I believe knowledge is power, and that’s what this film is. It’s educational,” Kelly said. “For the past 15 years, I’ve worked with students who’ve grown up in generational poverty, and I see exactly what inflation is doing to that community. Any time you can give people information to help them make good decisions about their lives, I’m behind it.”

The couple explained that “bitcoin can’t be diluted” the way that the traditional dollar can by printing more of them.

“Bitcoin conserves that economic energy that you use to create that dollar. It’s safe. It protects it from money-printing. It’s like a shield,” Brian said. “The government doesn’t have the discipline not to print money…which keeps diluting your purchasing power, which causes prices to go up.”

He added that the current economic system “is failing,” and “people will eventually opt out of that system and opt into the new system, which is Bitcoin.”

“I just want to make sure people understand Bitcoin isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme or anything like that,” Brian concluded. “I think about it as more like a long-term savings account.”

Kelly added, “I really do believe we have to come up with a more moral and ethical form of a way to conduct business interactions with each other and to use our money to better serve God’s purpose for us.”

“Let this just be the door opening to studying more and learning more about it and seeing how it would work well for you,” she urged viewers.

A description of the movie reads:

GOD BLESS BITCOIN asks the timely question: How do we fix our broken money? Through in-depth conversations with bitcoin and interfaith religious leaders, the film exposes the broken, unjust, and immoral nature of our current fiat-based monetary system, one that is intimately connected to the military industrial complex and the propagation of war. The film also shows how and why members of the poor and middle class feel a financial squeeze even when they work hard and lead fiscally responsible lives. GOD BLESS BITCOIN ultimately suggests the ways in which Bitcoin can present alternatives to our current system that are more just, equitable, and peaceful.

GOD BLESS BITCOIN will be available to watch for free starting July 25.
