Comedian Shares One of the Best Ways to Understand God’s Presence

By Movieguide® Contributor

Russell Brand and American podcaster George Janko recently talked about what it looks like to invite God into your life.

Brand noted that as Christians, we believe the risen Christ will return, and when that happens, those who don’t have a relationship with Him will be separated from Him forever.

Janko explained that in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says, “The pure of heart will see God.”

“I think that the closer that you are to God and the more you obey, the more that you can see His presence,” he added.

“Let me give an example,” Janko continued. “You can’t see the wind, but you can see what the wind does. How’s that? So you don’t believe in the wind because you can’t see it? But if it’s blowing, your hair is magnificent in the air. What’s that? But you can see it, [so] now you believe it. Sometimes you really, really have to have faith. And I think this is the truth of it. I think all of us serve a generous God, and if you don’t know who God is, it’s because you didn’t invite him into your life.”

God doesn’t want to barge into our lives without permission. He wants us to invite him in.

“He’s a gentleman at the door waiting for you,” Janko said. “But the devil sneaks through your windows and corrupts your family. And all you got to do is listen to [God’s knocking]. Watch how Satan will run away.”

Janko is right. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” When we turn to God and reject Satan, he will leave us, and God will work in our lives.

Brand recently has been vulnerable about his journey to allow God to work in his life. Movieguide® previously reported:

In a recent social media post, new believer Russell Brand shared about a struggle that many Christians go through in their faith journey — feeling distant from Jesus.

“I’ve been a Christian now for three months. Sometimes I find it quite difficult. What I mean by that is I feel that Christ is far away, and I don’t feel that intimate connection with Christ,” Brand admitted

Brand related closeness to God to that of spiritual maturity, while sharing that God’s presence is not always evidenced by feelings.

“I heard yesterday in church that even when I can’t feel God, God is working on me,” the 49-year-old said. “God is working me into the shape that he needs me to be in.”

He added that emotional highs are not the end game of one’s walk with God.
