Dolly Parton Thanks God For $100 Million Amazon Prize

By Movieguide® Contributor

Music icon Dolly Parton recently sat down to talk about her Christmas special, as well as what she plans to do with the $100 million dollars Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos gave the noted humanitarian.

The NBC special DOLLY PARTON’S MOUNTAIN MAGIC CHRISTMAS follows Parton and her crew as they try to put on a Christmas special. She’s joined by stars like Jimmy Fallon, Billy Ray Cyrus, and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus.

“It’s like a show within a show,” Parton explained while on the TODAY show. “Because I think people are real interested in knowing what goes on behind the scenes. It’s a lot of drama, it’s a lot of comedy, lot of meaningful songs, [and] a lot of meaningful places.”

A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:

Dolly Parton provides audiences with an inspiring Christmas Production all about faith and Christ. DOLLY PARTON’S MOUNTAIN MAGIC CHRISTMAS has a strong Christian worldview stressing the love of Christ and is entertaining, charming and fun. Dolly literally starts out the movie singing that the meaning of Christmas is Christ. Also, the ending talks about accepting Jesus into your heart. Viewers will be thoroughly entertained and want to sing along to DOLLY PARTON’S MOUNTAIN MAGIC CHRISTMAS.

Parton also spoke about the $100 million Bezos awarded her as part of the Bezos Courage and Civility Award.

“I said, ‘Are you telling me that you’re giving me $100 million for my charities?'” Parton said. “And he said, ‘Yeah, that’s what I’m telling you. No strings attached, except that it all has to go to charity.’ And I started to cry on the phone. I was just thinkin’ of all the great things that I could do for so many needy people. And I just thought, ‘Wow, thank you, God.’”

The country superstar went on to talk about her hopes for the coming year.

“My hopes for the new year is a little more kindness, a little more love and a little more tryin’ to pull together instead of falling apart,” Parton shared. “I’m gonna try my best to try to bring as much joy as I can, and lift people up as much as I can in my way.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Parton’s Amazon award:

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has revealed plans to give away the majority of his $124 billion dollar fortune throughout his life.

Bezos, the fourth-richest person in the world, plans to donate his money towards combating climate change and to people capable of unifying the world. One of those people? Dolly Parton.

Parton was presented with the Bezos Award for Courage & Civility, which comes with a $100 million prize.

The award recognizes “leaders who aim high, find solutions, and who always do it with civility,” and the prize money will be directed “to the charities that (recipients) see fit.”

Bezos said Parton “embodies these ideals so thoroughly; she gives with her heart. What she’s done for kids, literacy and so many other things is just incredible.”

Parton responded, “Wow! Did you say $100 million? When people are in a position to help, you should help, and I know that I’ve always said I try to put my money where my heart is… I will do my best to do good things with this money.”
