Drag Show Labeled as ‘Family Friendly,’ Canceled After Parent Outrage

By Movieguide® Staff

The pervasive and misrepresented view of sex in today’s culture is no secret for anyone with a TV, smartphone, or computer. Unfortunately, topics about sex, identity, and self are standard in schools and media that reach the ears of a younger generation and are contrary to the teaching of God’s word.

However, perhaps more concerning for discerning Christians is the push by LGBT+ proponents to take the over-sexualization of children’s entertainment mainstream and label it as “family-friendly.”

Recently, Discovery+ launched a show called GENERATION DRAG, which looks at the lives of five 12 to 15-year-old boys and their young careers in drag.

“Generation Drag follows five teens and their families as they anticipate their biggest drag performance at Dragutante, a drag show designed as a platform for LGBTQ+ teens to express themselves,” Discovery+’s description of the show reads.

However, the same trends permeate media targeting even younger crowds, like past children’s shows, DRAG TOTS, and SUPER DRAGS.

DRAG TOTS followed a group of toddler-aged drag queens and premiered on network TV in 2018.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Parents shouldn’t have to worry about sexualized themes and agenda’s in children shows, but the reality is that they do have to worry. Whether it be Drag Queen reading sessions at schools, characters of classic literature being made lesbians, or your local city holding a LGBT Pride event, Christians should be ready to pass on biblical values and teachings to their children regarding these issues. Don’t wait for filmmakers or TV shows to teach your children what to think or believe.

More recently, an event in Indiana deemed their drag show as “family-friendly.”

The Dubois County Pride committee scheduled the event, called “Pride in the Park,” for June 24. However, after backlash on social media, the committee canceled the show over “safety concerns.”

“We regretfully announce that, due to safety and security concerns, the family-friendly drag performance planned for Pride in the Park has been cancelled,” the committee wrote in a Facebook post. “Our mission to promote and advocate love and equality remains steadfast.”

“Our schools are overreaching and indoctrinating our children, which has created confusion and stress in the most vulnerable,” one parent, Stacey Hernandez, said, calling the canceled show “filth” and “exploitation.”

As culture tries to redefine and rewrite what the Bible says about love, sex, and identity, it becomes more critical for parents to train their children with a biblical worldview.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6
