Fans Celebrate South African DJ’s Response to Altar Call
By Movieguide® Contributor
South African DJ Black Coffee went viral across social media after responding to an altar call and giving his life to Christ.
In the middle of January, Black Coffee was involved in a plane crash while on a flight to his show in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. While the musician shared that the accident left him with injuries, he did not reveal what occurred or the severity of the event. The artist did, however, cancel his upcoming shows to allow himself time to recover.
“Thank you for respecting my privacy during an intimate and enlightening moment in my life. I’ve taken this time to recover and take some much needed time off at home, healing with my family by my side,” Black Coffee wrote on Instagram on Feb. 9. “It’s been rejuvenating on a handful of levels, I can’t wait to be back on the dance floor with you all very, very soon. I’m thankful to the merciful God for giving me yet another chance.”
Fans were given a peek into the artist’s personal life a few days later as a video of Black Coffee responding to an altar call was shared across social media. The musician has not previously discussed faith but was clearly moved by the plane crash.

In response to the video, fans have celebrated the musician’s conversion to faith.
“May the Good Lord Jesus Christ Fetch them One By One! One after the Other,” one fan wrote in the comments.
“Wow, I guess Black Coffee realized that even DJs need saving!” said another fan. “Gotta love a good ol’ conversion story.”
Black Coffee’s accident in January was not his first brush with death. In 1990, Black Coffee was at an event celebrating the release of Nelson Mandela from prison when a car rammed into a crowd he was a part of, leaving him without use of his left arm.
Please keep Black Coffee in your prayers as he continues to recover from his plane crash and begins on his journey with the Lord.
