Gold Glove Shortstop Nick Ahmed Recalls Moment of Salvation: ‘God I Surrender’

MLB superstar and 2-time Gold Glove winning Shortstop Nick Ahmed recently talked about his faith and how he relies on the foundation of Christ in his life on and off the field.
In a recent I ONCE WAS segment from Sports Spectrum, Ahmed explained how faith helped him overcome feelings of failure and anxiety.
“Back in 2013 I was struggling with a lot of different things in my life,” he shared. “At that time I was in a long-distance relationship with my wife who was my fiance at the time, I was struggling with fitting in with a new team, I just got traded and I struggled. I was dealing with failure on the field like never before and every day I just had this anxiety and fear and depression and worry about what the future might hold and all those events kind of led up to this one moment.”
“It’s a super hot night in Mobile Alabama at the end of May and I step out in the field for that game,” he recalled. “That night I just finished my second strikeout and for whatever reason I ran out to shortstop in between innings to take the two or three ground balls to warm up between innings and I didn’t do that for some reason. I turned around and I faced the outfield and I just closed my eyes and prayed and right that moment I asked God to come into my life and save me. I just said ‘God I surrender. I’m going to do life your way.”
“I asked Jesus into my heart and I felt the presence the Holy Spirit come in and flood me and give me a peace that I’ve never had before and I still have it with me to this day,” he concluded.
