The Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets G League team, took home the championship on Friday night, a victory quickly followed by a moment of prayer on the court.

“Father God, we come to you right now. Thank you for your love, grace and mercy that continues to keep us. Thank you for who you are, how you are and what you are in our lives, God,” a coach prayed in a video shared on Instagram, per Christhlete. “As always, we thank you for the peace and values of the season that prepared us for this moment. You have been intertwined with this team this entire season, and so we thank you, Lord.”

“We want to give you the praise and the honor. We know we could not have done this without you,” the team continued to pray. “So please continue to shine on us. Please continue, as we go our separate ways, continue to guide us, continue to order our steps. And last but not least, Father God, continue to bless this group, continue to bless each individual as we continue to grow in our journey with you and in our careers, Father God. So we thank you for this moment. We thank you for everybody in this building, and we ask for travel mercy for everybody going back to their ways. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”

According to the Greensboro Swarm, the team won its “first NBA G League Championship, while the Charlotte Hornets became the first organization to ever win the NBA Las Vegas Summer League and NBA G League Championship in the same season. Two-way forward Tosan Evbuomwan earned NBA G League Finals MVP honors, averaging 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the series, shooting 50.0% (12-of-24) from the field while adding 1.5 steals.”

The team defeated the Stockton Kings 119-104, sweeping the series, 2-0.

Evbuomwan had some help as Liam McNeeley and Jaylen Sims recorded 21 and 20 points. Tidjane Salaun and Antonio Reeves also added 19 and 15 points, with the Swarm holding the Kings to only five 3-pointers.

Sims, who has Mark 9:23 written in his Instagram bio, reflected on the season in a social media post.

“Year 4✅. The journey been crazy. Season full of ups and downs but through it all stayed solid. You left a legacy wherever you been at 3️⃣0️⃣ Just grateful that I still get to do this for a living,” he wrote.

The Swarm certainly deserved the win, and we applaud their desire to honor God with their victory.
