By Movieguide® Contributor
Greg Laurie celebrated JESUS REVOLUTION receiving an award at this year’s Movieguide® Award Gala.
“Thanks to @movieguide for presenting @jesusrevolutionmovie the award for ‘Best movie for mature audiences.’ The greatest reward however of seeing this story of the JESUS REVOLUTION brought to the screen has been the countless lives that have been impacted and changed after watching it,” Laurie posted on Instagram.
JESUS REVOLUTION won a Teddy Bear Award® for “Best Movie for Mature Audiences,” beating out BOYS IN THE BOAT, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, GODZILLA MINUS ONE and SOUND OF FREEDOM.
Since the beginning, JESUS REVOLUTION has impacted the lives of those who interact with the movie. During filming, over a dozen people working on the movie gave their lives to Christ and got baptized. Its influence continued during pre-screenings, where non-Christians were touched by the story and brought to tears.
The movie’s impact only continued to grow once it was released last year, leading to numerous displays of faith. JESUS REVOLUTION prompted multiple people to spontaneous baptisms and inspired many praise and worship sessions within theaters.
JESUS REVOLUTION tells the story of the revival that took place in the ’60s and ’70s, which caused many counter-cultural advocates to turn from a life of drugs to a life of faith. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:
JESUS REVOLUTION is incredibly well made and captivating. It has many scenes with jeopardy and inspiring, well-written presentations of Jesus’ Gospel. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution because the movie accurately depicts the drug scene from an impartial viewpoint that might attract younger children. The movie also shows Greg Laurie’s mother’s constant drunkenness and philandering. The immoral behavior is part of the true stories in JESUS REVOLUTION, which, to an amazing degree, have been made into an exciting, cohesive, uplifting movie.
In total, the movie grossed over $54 million worldwide and was the foundation for an excellent year for faith-based movies. The success of other faith-based standouts from last year, including SOUND OF FREEDOM, was certainly framed by JESUS REVOLUTION.
The movie also hit theaters at the perfect time, as a mini-revival swept the nation through events such as the Asbury revival. Laurie’s story only helped reinforce the fact that faith in God is open to anyone willing to follow His word and turn their hearts to Him.
