The 2021 documentary SHOW ME THE FATHER explored the impact of fathers have on sons; now it’s time to talk about the father-daughter relationships with upcoming documentary HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER.

“Many women who have the father hole in their heart know that something deep hurts, but they don’t know what it is,” pediatrician and author of Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters Dr. Meg Meeker said.

HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER directed by Rick Altizer, who directed SHOW ME THE FATHER, interview several women as they discuss the impact their relationships — from abusive to absent — and how it impacted their life.

The documentary features comedian Chonda Pierce, Dr. Meeker, In-N-Out Burger owner Lynsi Snyder, actor and filmmaker Alex Kendrick (who produced SHOW ME THE FATHER), actress BJ Barnett and author and speaker Kia Stephens, to name a few.

“The role of a father is one that cannot be overstated,” Altizer said. “Strong families are the foundation of a healthy society, and fathers play the most vital role in this family structure.

“HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER and the stories of these women show just how enormous an impact fathers have on their daughters’ sense of [worth] and identity,” he went on to explain.

Dr. Meeker argued that it is the father that sets a precedent for healthy future relationships.

“If she’s used to being hugged and touched in a healthy way from her father, and she goes out and dates somebody that hits her, that won’t touch her, that touches her inappropriately, she’s gone, because dad didn’t do that. Dad respected her. Dad loved her.” Dr. Meeker said.

“It’s critically important that daughters understand what healthy male love is about, and healthy male love gives you affection, and it gives you attention, and it gives you affirmation, and it gives you a sense of value, that you are worth something,” she added.

The movie also points to how our earthly father should lead us to the Heavenly Father, as Rachelle Starr, Founder and President of Scarlet Hope, who also appears in DAUGHTER, points out.

“Women are in dire need of a fatherly presence in their life to provide guidance and point them to Christ,” Starr said. “Without that, women will spend their lives searching for something else to try and fill that irreplaceable hole in their heart.”

Pierce has opened up about her painful childhood and finding healing through her faith, despite having an abusive father, who left the family when she was a teenager.

“I began to see that this Heavenly Father loves me in a way no earthly father could ever possibly figure out,” Pierce said. “God is my father, I am loved, and He calls me daughter. A heavenly father changes everything.”

HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER comes out in theaters March 17 and 18.
