Here’s What Happened When This A-List Actress Reposted Melania Trump
By Movieguide® Contributor
DIVERGENT star Shailene Woodley reposted a statement from former First Lady Melania Trump after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, and liberals aren’t having it.
“Because [Woodley] decided to repost Melania Trump’s statement after Donald Trump was nearly assassinated, she posted it on her public Instagram story, and people are so upset that she decided this was a statement worthy of post,” said YouTube personality Amala Ekpunobi last week. “Now in it, Melania Trump talks about the assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life. She talks about Donald’s impact on her and her family, that he’s a man of character.”
Melania wrote her letter about love and compassion.
“She didn’t use her statement as a moment to spew vitriol towards the people she thought were responsible for the assassination attempt,” Ekpunobi observed. “She didn’t use it as a moment to spew hatred towards her political opponent. None of that.”
“She actually in fact spoke about the fact that love is what is needed in this moment,” she continued. “Unity is what it is needed after this moment, after somebody attempted to take her husband’s life. That’s what she decided to put in this statement.”
Ekpunobi noted that many would have responded with a statement full of anger and hurt, but that’s not what Melania did.
In response to Woodley’s post, one person said, “That’s sad.” Another said, “Tris from Divergent would NOT approve ?.”
One comment read, “Ew, she used to be based now she SUCKS.”
Yesterday morning, Woodley posted words by Arthur Weiner on her Insta story. The opening line read, “…At the very core of this day is LOVE.”
“Shout out to Shailene Woodley for doing something that in today’s day and age is brave, although it shouldn’t be brave,” Ekpunobi said. “She’s literally risking her career, risking future projects by posting a statement, posting words from somebody of great prominence in our society.”
Melania’s letter read:
I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans.
We have always been a unique union. America, the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered, but our courage and common sense must ascend and bring us back together as one.
When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change. I am grateful to the brave secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband.
To the families of the innocent victims who are now suffering from this heinous act, I humbly offer my sincerest sympathy. Your need to summon your inner strength for such a terrible reason saddens me.
A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald’s passion – his laughter, ingenuity, love of music, and inspiration. The core facets of my husband’s life – his human side – were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been with through the best of times and the worst of times.
Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy, and political games are inferior to love. Our personal, structural, and life commitment – until death – is at serious risk. Political concepts are simple when compared to us, human beings.
We are all humans, and fundamentally, instinctively, we want to help one another. American politics are only one vehicle that can uplift our communities. Love, compassion, kindness and empathy are necessities.
And let us remember that when the time comes to look beyond the left and the right, beyond the red and the blue, we all come from families with the passion to fight for a better life together, while we are here, in this earthly realm.
Dawn is here again. Let us reunite. Now.
This morning, ascend above the hate, the vitriol, and the simple-minded ideas that ignite violence. We all want a world where respect is paramount, family is first, and love transcends. We can realize this world again. Each of us must demand to get it back. We must insist that respect fills the cornerstone of our relationships again.
I am thinking of you, my fellow Americans.
The winds of change have arrived. For those of you who cry in support, I thank you. I commend those of you who have reached out beyond the political divide – thank you for remembering that every single politician is a man or a woman with a loving family.
Movieguide® previously spoke with Woodley about the DIVERGENT series. The actress said she saw her character, Tris, as a role model:
She wasn’t somebody who started out as an intrinsic hero. She became a hero through the process of becoming brave and learning to face her fears. I think in that way her story can be paralleled to the lives of many of us who are trying to be brave in the modern world.
“She was this young girl who had fallen into this mission,” Shailene concluded, “and if she didn’t accomplish [it], she and the rest of her community would die. So, in that respect she is a hero, because a hero is. . . someone who steps up in the face of fear and does something in a selfless manner to help those around them. And, Tris does do that.”
