HGTV’s Erin Napier recently opened up about her “dream” for her daughters’ later school years.
“I have a dream of homeschooling the girls, grades 5 through 9,” she said while appearing on the WHOA THAT’S GOOD podcast. “When they’re going through the worst, most awkward parts of being a teenager, I want to be with them more.”
Napier explained that she “had a hard time around that age,” and wants to “be there for them in a way my parents couldn’t be.”
She also shared her hopes that her daughters — Helen, 7, and Mae, 4 — find their passions as they get older.

“When I got to middle school is when I picked up guitar and I started taking lessons, and that — learning to play an instrument when none of my peers did — gave me otherworldly confidence, and that’s something I really want for my girls to find: the thing that’s theirs, that they can own, their skill that they really love and that makes them have confidence,” Napier explained.
The HOME TOWN star previously shared her plans to homeschool her daughters earlier this year.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Napier wrote, “Homeschool was our dream from the day Helen was born, but work was busy, then Mae was born and we just kept saying ‘someday we will.’”
“After 3 years at an amazing little school, the dream wouldn’t leave me alone and we weren’t ready to let this summer of being together and having fun end,” she continued. “So, here we go. My painting studio became a classical school overnight.”
In addition to fulfilling her longtime dream of homeschooling her children, Napier has also mentioned that homeschool is a way to help her daughters avoid the pitfalls that come with early social media and smartphone use.
She and husband Ben even established Osprey, a nonprofit dedicated to keeping children off of social media until they graduate high school.
“Research tells us social media is as addictive and destructive for developing brains as any drug,” Napier wrote on Instagram. “This made me think: My kindergartener doesn’t expect to drive a car before she’s old enough. She doesn’t expect to own a house of her own before she’s old enough. If we build a culture in our home and school now where she doesn’t expect access to the entire world in her pocket until she’s much older, we can set her up for success.”
It looks like Napier’s longtime dream of homeschooling her daughters has finally come true!
