Can a Post-Apocalyptic Movie Be Hopeful? HOMESTEAD Stars Say Yes

Can a Post-Apocalyptic Movie Be Hopeful? HOMESTEAD Stars Say Yes

By Movieguide® Contributor

The stars of HOMESTEAD are sharing what they hope viewers take away from the new movie.

“I think when you see a lot of post-apocalyptic films, they’re always kind of zombie films,” star Neal McDonough told Movieguide® at the HOMESTEAD premiere. “This is different. This is really a ‘what if?’ for human beings that stay as human beings. On the Christian side of it, it’s ‘what are you prepared to do if something horrible happens to help humanity more than just helping yourself?'”

He continued, “For me, it was really just a wonderful message. I love being part of films that have a message.”

“It really is a great commentary on who we are as human beings, and if we truly are God’s children, shouldn’t we be rooting for one another because we’re brothers and sisters in the eyes of God?” McDonough asked.

Dawn Olivieri called HOMESTEAD “really genuine [and] unique,” adding, “I’m excited for people to see [it].”

“We watch movies to have hope,” actress Olivia Sanabia shared. “To leave the movie with some sort of palpable feeling [is] I think the most important thing about HOMESTEAD.”

Tyler Lofton explained that HOMESTEAD is “all about the family and the community. That’s what holds us together. That’s how the world started, and that’s how it should finish, too. That’s the only thing that keeps us going. We can’t do this on our own.”

“A lot of apocalypse movies you see, it’s about one person or one family trying to make sure that they make it out alive,” actress Kearran Giovanni said. “The spin on this one is, we are trying to make sure that everyone makes it out alive and everyone has what they need to succeed and get out of this together.”

Jesse Hutch spoke about how all different types of viewers will see themselves somewhere in the movie.

“No matter what walk of life you’re in…I think you can watch this film and connect with one person,” he said.

The movie is set to be part of a franchise, rounded out with a HOMESTEAD series.

“Charles Esten (OUTER BANKS, NASHVILLE), Jill Wagner (LIONESS, BRAVEN) and Sam Page (MAD MEN, HOUSE OF CARDS) have been cast in the post-apocalyptic drama series about the survival of a community within a doomsday compound,” Deadline reported. “They join the film’s Chase and Olivieri, who will also appear in the series.”

HOMESTEAD premieres Dec. 20.
