Erin Napier recently opened up about how an anxiety-busting exercise led to the life she has today.
“I struggle deeply with anxiety and worry, which is why Psalms is my favorite,” Erin shared on the WHOA THAT’S GOOD podcast.
To combat those anxieties, Erin began a blog where she only wrote about the good things that had happened that day.
“The journal blog was a practice in daily counting my blessings, and it really changed my life,” she said.

During an episode of THAT SOUNDS FUN, Erin also spoke about her blog, saying, “I wrote every day about the best thing that happened. And so training myself to do that even on the days when somebody died. I had to write about something that was great about that day. And it helped. It helped a lot.”
The blog even led to their mega-popular renovation show HOME TOWN.
“I was scrolling through social media and in my DMs was a message from the producer at HGTV who was just reaching out to ask if we had ever thought about doing TV,” Erin said on WHOA THAT’S GOOD, adding that they had seen her blog and knew the Napiers “were renovating our own house really thriftily.”
Erin continued, “The greatest advice I can offer is that every plan we ever made, every plan we ever had, did not happen…every single thing that we thought was the right thing and what we wanted to do, God had a thousand times better idea.”
In a post on the Laurel Mercantile website, Erin recalled that time in greater detail, writing, “When [the HGTV producer] found my photos on Instagram, she felt like Laurel was special. Something about our little town gave her a gut feeling that she needed to reach out, that something was here for her, and something about our small town life could make people all across the country nostalgic for a place they’ve never even been.”
“It’s like [my] mama was trying to figure recently — what are the odds of Laurel being chosen for a television show, and furthermore, what are the odds of one of the hosts being her daughter?” she continued. “The odds are infinitely small. They’re odds only God could have created.”
Erin’s recent comments are a wonderful reminder to trust in God’s plan, even when you feel worried or anxious.
