Christian singer Josh Baldwin explained how the songs on his new five-track EP Full Grown Man were all too good to get lost in a full-length album.

“With this album, it felt like I had these songs that I’d been sitting on for four or five years, and they didn’t really fit with like, you know, worship albums, per se. And I didn’t want to put them on an album and maybe have them get lost in them…I sat on them for years because I was like, if I don’t have something specific for them, some place to put them on, then I’ll just wait until that happens,” Baldwin told Matthew West.

“And then, you know, finally years later, I was just like, I think I have a group of songs that fit down the same stream. They’re fully me singing about or to Jesus,” he continued. “But they are down this lane that maybe the other songs that I’ve written in the past don’t go down. And it’s nice to have that outlet to just release more of who I am.”

While Baldwin has released a variety of music throughout his career, the theme that remains true throughout is his trust in Jesus. He has written numerous hits that became anthems across the church which have come from a variety of seasons in his life.

“I wrote that song maybe five, six years ago, and I’ve probably led that song more than any other song I’ve sang and led in my entire life,” Baldwin said about his song “Stand In Your Love.” “I am so encouraged when I sing the song, and when I hear people singing and we’re worshiping together, singing these lines, I’m reminded that we all go through our stuff. We all go through struggles.”

“The enemy is always trying to come at us with fear, and as I hear people singing these lines — that my fear doesn’t stand a chance when I stand in the love of Jesus — it just reminds me that I’m not alone,” he continued. “I’m not the only one that has fears.”

The realness of Baldwin’s songs comes from pain in his life that he has gotten through only by the grace of God. This pain is evident through his music as he shares how the Lord has been faithful despite everything he has been through.

“But it just ended up being a season of death and pain during my whole marking of that time in Moravian Falls,” Baldwin said when recalling how God called him to worship ministry. “My marriage was falling apart and my ministry was falling apart, and I got a job at Lowes for like $5.30 an hour or whatever it was, and I was living off of like $500 a month. So it was one of the lowest seasons [of my life] and, like, I got into some of my vices again, but I had a whole community there that saw me at my worst, in a season of dying, and still loved me.”

Baldwin’s unshakable faith is evident throughout his entire career, and Full Grown Man is yet another collection of songs which speak to truths of the Lord and the Christian walk. The EP is now available.
