Jonathan Roumie recently shared how his role on THE CHOSEN has impacted his relationship with his parents.

“[My parents] lived out their faith to the fullest,” he said during an interview with Sound Mind and Spirit, adding that his mother and father “taught us our prayers and what it meant to be faithful Christians.”

Roumie continued, “My mother…she taught us most of our prayers, my sisters and I, and so I think learning prayers at bedtime was something that will always stick with me.”

When asked what playing Jesus has taught him, the actor answered that it “has given me an opportunity to learn what it means to give people grace when they need it.”

“I have been given so much grace,” he continued. “And I would hope that that had extended to my parents, especially for all the things that they sacrificed for our family growing up. I try to give back to them in a way that I know they need.”

Roumie added, “[My parents] are just really proud…they knew how long it took me to get to this point.”

The actor recently spoke to CBN, sharing that the worldwide response to THE CHOSEN has been “mind blowing.”

“I just have to trust in that and just honor that and do the best that I can to just bringing everything that I have to the role,” Roumie continued.

While most people are used to seeing Roumie play Jesus, the actor is about to take on a different kind of role in SOLO MIO, an upcoming romantic comedy led by Kevin James, set to be released by Angel Studios.

“We saw SOLO MIO, and the feeling was incredible. We knew it was a perfect fit for Angel to release to a broad audience,” Jordan Harmon, President of Angel, said in a statement. “Kevin James and Jonathan Roumie bring heart, humor, and originality to this uplifting tale of rediscovery, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience it in theaters.”

Producer Jeffrey Greenstein added, “We couldn’t be more excited to be partnered with Angel on SOLO MIO. This is a film that people need to see in theaters. The world just needs fun, heartfelt content with a strong message, and we’re excited to get them back into the theaters to see this one.”

Roumie might be exploring other kinds of roles, but it’s clear his time on THE CHOSEN has greatly impacted the actor’s faith.
