Kat Dennings is joining Tim Allen for SHIFTING GEARS, a new sitcom pilot from ABC.

“SHIFTING GEARS centers on Matt (Allen), the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,” Deadline reported. “When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.”

They continued, “Dennings’ Riley butted heads with her father growing up and left to marry the boyfriend he hated. Now divorced, Riley’s forced to move back home with two kids, hoping she and her dad can make it work this time.”

Dennings is also serving as a producer on the project.

SHIFTING GEARS was written and executive produced by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully. The couple have previously worked on THE SIMPSONS. Scully also worked on EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND and PARKS AND RECREATION, and Thacker Scully on FULLER HOUSE.

“She and Scully co-created shows like COMPLETE SAVAGES for ABC starring Keith Carradine and Erik Von Dettern and THE PITTS for Fox, which was an early starring role for Lizzy Caplan,” Variety wrote. “Both Scully and Thacker Scully have also directed in addition to writing and producing.”

Allen has spoken about his excitement for his return to the world of TV.

“I am very excited,” Allen told Entertainment Tonight. “You know, I tried really hard with HOME IMPROVEMENT, and then LAST MAN STANDING. Maybe three’s a charm! Maybe I can finally make a statement with this.”

He continued, “It was a big event for me, ’cause I really loved HOME IMPROVEMENT, [so] to do LAST MAN STANDING was a big push, and then I love that family so much. But then ABC said, ‘If you come up with an idea,’ and I said, ‘If I did it, it would be this.’ And we came up with this idea, and we’re getting there.”
