Katharine McPhee Cancels Concerts After Son’s Nanny Dies in Tragic Accident

Singer Katharine McPhee suddenly canceled her appearances at her and husband David Foster’s concerts in Jakarta after their son’s nanny, Yadira Calito unexpectedly died on August 9.
“A 55-year-old woman was killed last Wednesday when a customer driving an SUV at Hamer Toyota lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the reception area,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
“A spokesperson for the Hamer Toyota dealership on Wednesday identified the woman who died as Yadira Calito,” the Los Angeles Times said. “Calito was McPhee and Foster’s family nanny.”
TMZ reported, “Two men working at the Toyota dealership were also injured in the crash…but both are expected to make full recoveries.”
Calito cared for McPhee and Foster’s 2-year-old son, Rennie.
McPhee, a singer who got her start as the runner-up on AMERICAN IDOL Season 5, apologized on Instagram for the cancelation. She said that she or her husband needed to be with family in this difficult time.
People observed that only McPhee skipped the concerts: “According to Foster’s website, the singer-songwriter continued with the two performances, which were scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Jakarta’s Sentul International Convention Centre.”
SheKnows news outlet wrote, “Now that the tragic details have emerged about what happened to their beloved friend, it’s clear that McPhee… made the right decision to come home immediately.”
“The couple had originally planned to take a three month break from touring following their concerts in Jakarta before resuming shows in the U.S. in the fall.” People continued, “The tour is currently scheduled to resume on Nov. 1 at the Andiamo Celebrity Showroom in Warren, Michigan.”
Last fall, the couple shared how they love to spend time with their son. Their busy schedule sometimes holds them back, but they still try to take him with them when they travel. The 2-year-old has already visited three countries.
