Kevin Sorbo Calls Out Hollywood Experience

By Movieguide® Contributor

GOD’S NOT DEAD actor Kevin Sorbo is opening up about how Hollywood treated him after he began to post about Christian and conservative values on social media.

“My manager and agent called me in about a dozen years ago and said, ‘We can’t work with you anymore’ because [of] what I was posting on the internet. I said, ‘What am I posting? The truth?'” he told Erick Stakelbeck.

Sorbo, however, was the same person his agent hired 25 years prior. He explained that the agency that represented him didn’t like that he posted about his beliefs on social media. They told him “Things are shifting in Hollywood.”

“They certainly are, as we’re all seeing,” Sorbo said before adding, “and I laugh at that because, you know, they’re the ones who scream for tolerance, freedom of speech, but they’re hypocrites. It’s all a one-way street.”

When Sorbo was dropped by his agent, he and his wife, Sam, decided to launch Sorbo Studios, a small production company focused on “bringing Biblical truth to life.”

Because he stood up for his beliefs, other people in Hollywood began to treat him differently.

Sorbo explained that many cameramen, other actors and crew workers would come up to him and say, “Thank you for being a voice for us.” Sorbo would respond by saying, “Go be a voice for yourself.”

“They’re afraid though. They’re [saying], ‘Well, what happened to you will happen to me,” he revealed.

He isn’t oblivious to the blacklisting from Hollywood that’s come his way.

“If it wasn’t for faith-based or independent movies, I wouldn’t have a career anymore,” Sorbo said previously. “I gave them 12 years of two TV shows — one being the most watched show in the world. And (Hollywood) just said, ‘Nope.'”

But voicing his beliefs hasn’t changed Sorbo’s career in the way they think.

“I’m still working,” he explained. “Yeah, they’re not calling me to do big budget movies or TV shows on networks anymore. I don’t harbor that anger and hate towards people that have a different point of view. I really don’t, but they do, and they claim to be the party of tolerance and love and forgiveness when they’re the total opposite.”

Along with his work in the entertainment world, Sorbo supports conservative, Christian values through his work as an author. Movieguide® previously reported:

Just in time for Father’s Day, actor Kevin Sorbo released his new children’s book “The Bear Essentials of Fatherhood” as he recently discussed his concern with the attack on masculinity and conservative Christians.

“[The book is about how important] fathers are to kids because we’re emasculating men like crazy in our movies and TV shows,” Sorbo told Bob Hallmark at a Longview, Texas, Comic Con. “Men and women are both very instrumental, both together combined bring different power to the family unit, and I’m tired of Hollywood wanting to bash families and break families apart.”

The GOD’S NOT DEAD star highlights that much of the negative view of fathers has come from TV and movies in the last decades.

“We got kids growing up watching sitcoms over the last 50 years, that the emasculation of the father something that they want. The dad in the sitcom is kind of chunky, out of shape…and the teenage kids use dad as a pincushion to make fun of,” he said
