Newsboys’ Michael Tait Reveals Moment He Found Salvation: ‘One-on-One’

Newsboys lead singer Michael Tait opened up with CBN about his musical inspirations, his new Christmas album and how a message about hell brought him to Jesus.

“I grew up listening to like, you know, Mel Touret, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett—the great late Tony Bennett—and of course Nat King Cole, when other kids were listening to, you know, Michael Jackson and Earth Wind Fire and Stevie Wonder. I was into and I like them too, but I just love the cooler side of things,” he said of his musical inspirations.

Tait’s musical career has flourished, and he drew on those inspirations for his recently released Christmas album.

“Capital [Records] was like, ‘Let’s make some Christmas songs, we’ll see what happens.” So last year, we put out three. This year, we put out three. The CD is called ‘I Believe in Christmas,’ and it’s some of the classics. ‘Oh Holy Night,’ ‘Chestnuts,’ Christmas song you know, ‘Come all Ye Faithful,’ ‘All I want for Christmas’…all done in that in that fancy like throwback kind of vibe that that I live for,” he said. “I just love it.”

Tait is known for his commitment to their Christian faith, but that wasn’t always the case.

Faithwire reported, “Tait said he was 17 or 18 years old when a preacher came to his school and spoke about the ‘subject of hell, and how real hell is, and how beautiful heaven is.’”

“He preached on what preachers don’t preach about much anymore,” the singer said. “You can’t get saved on the back of your dad or your mom; it’s not osmosis. It’s a thing we have to be one-on-one with God.”

Tait continued, “I got fired up that day, man — pun intended. I got fired up, and I went…forward for prayer, and I accepted God for myself as my Savior that day in high school.”

He and the Newsboys will be sharing the Gospel through the “Worldwide Revival Nights” tour.

“The tour is set to kick off in Versailles, OH on January 20th and run through at least April 28th with a stop in Fairfax, VA,” the Christian Beat reported.

Movieguide® previously reported on Tait:

Musician Michael Tait recently opened up about how hardships have helped him deepen his faith in God.

“My dad would always say when we were kids, ‘If we don’t stand for something, we will fall for anything,’” Tait recalled. “And it’s true. Whenever our faith is being questioned, people want to say, ‘What’s your stance on that?’ And we cower away or be bold about it. Morality issues, life issues, you should stand on a certain point, and if you question that, [you] are deconstructing the faith.”

“God pulls at man. He’s not going to bum-rush His way into our lives. He is going to make it known that, with His Hand on us, He’s going to chase you down relentlessly,” Tait continued. “Your arms are too short to box with God. You want to surrender and say, ‘Lord, I’m not sure what’s going on, I’m not sure what tomorrow holds, I’m not sure if I’m going to make it through. But, I know one thing that is sure and constant and that’s You because You’re the same every day, yesterday and tomorrow.’”
