Newly Baptized Disney Star Shares the Gospel at Kids’ Choice Awards

By Movieguide® Contributor

Disney star Joshua Bassett proclaimed his faith while accepting an award at Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards.

“I’d love to thank my Savior, Jesus Christ,” Bassett began. “There are a lot of people here who are burdened, broken-hearted, and have been beaten down by life. I’m here to tell you, for those of you who’ve lost hope, there’s a very real God who loves you more than you will ever possibly know.”

“His promise is peace, and my testimony is healing,” he continued. “Remember: forgive quickly, love freely and walk courageously.”

Bassett later posted about his win on Instagram, saying “love always wins in the end.”

After rejecting Christianity during his youth, Bassett returned to his faith earlier this year after two radical encounters with God. He was then baptized in mid-February, testifying about the incredible healing that can be found only in Jesus.

Since then, he has shared several faith-centered posts, including part of a song seemingly inspired by Matthew 16:26. The snippet starts, “gain the whole world just to lose who we were.”

Even though his journey is just beginning, Bassett has been outspoken about his faith—a move that is especially bold as many fans are upset about his conversion. Yet, Bassett continues to proclaim the Gospel and the power of Jesus to change lives.

Movieguide® has previously reported on Bassett’s faith journey:

Pop icon and Disney Channel star Joshua Bassett recently got baptized, sharing a snippet of his testimony on Instagram.

“No other teacher gave me anywhere near the peace that Jesus Christ did,” Bassett said. “I’m here to publicly declare him as my Lord and Savior.”

“I grew up Christian,” he shared. “And I ran the other way as far as I could go, in pursuit of ‘truth,’ and that only ended in addiction, depression, suicidal ideation, eating disorder, etc.”

“The gospel is GOOD NEWS for all willing to love and obey Him who keeps your heart beating,” he added on Twitter.

Bassett’s baptism is the next step in his spiritual journey, which began earlier this year following two encounters with Jesus that reopened his heart to faith.
