NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE’s David A.R. White and Robert Amaya Talk Movie’s Positive Message
By Movieguide® Staff
David AR White, best known for the faith-based GOD’S NOT DEAD franchise, recently starred in an inspiring sports drama from PureFlix called NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.
“It is a movie about second chances,” White told Movieguide®. “It is a movie about never giving up. With everything that’s going on in our society and all the hurting people and everything going on in our world, I think it couldn’t be better for such a time as this; to encourage people through the powerful medium of film. I’m very thankful that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE does that.”
A portion of Movieguide®’s review of the movie reads:
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is a sports drama from PureFlix, and follows former NBA prospect Scott Beck (David AR White) who learns about open tryouts to play professional basketball. Although he is 39 years old and works as a janitor at his former high school, Beck takes the leap of faith and trys out for the team. However, a malicious owner, an ex love interest, and fear of failure are in Beck’s way. Will he trust in God’s plan or his own?
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is a heartfelt story of faith and perseverance and features many scenes with powerful moments of prayer. The story is an inspiring story of God’s faithfulness, the importance of a church family, and perseverance through failure. Some sports fans will note some inaccuracies about the sports scenes. However, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE is an uplifting, family-friendly story that teaches timeless truths of God’s word and the importance of faith. Movieguide® advises some mild caution for middle schoolers and below for some adult themes.
White added: “Hopefully, [audiences] are entertained first and foremost, and then there’s just such a positive message about never giving up, and that no matter what has come against you, in your relationships, in your family, in society, just keep going forward, keep making the jump, keep moving forward. So I love this movie. And I got to work on my son in this movie, which is super cool.”
Actor Robert Amaya, who plays Nick Martin in the movie, pointed out the relatable themes about human dreams and God’s timing in our lives.
“I think Nick is a kind of character even though he’s a jovial, funny, fun guy. He really wants something, he has his dream inside of him that he has always wanted. In this case, he wanted to be a pastor,” he said of his character. “But in real life, I’ve had dreams, I always wanted to be in the music industry, for example. And when that didn’t pan out a long time ago, I thought that my dreams were shattered, I’d never be able to do anything in this world.”
However, Amaya said that he could not have predicted God’s plan for his life.
“God just had other plans,” he said. “He had another timing and I got married, I had two beautiful girls, I would not have had that if I would have had another avenue in my life. And now I get to not just have that, but then God opened a door for me to do faith-based films. I love it. I get to take these powerful messages to just the people like me.”
“Hopefully other people that come and watch the movie, they’ll experience it with their families,” he continued. “It’s a good time laughing, a good time not having to worry about what kind of language is used. No! It’s wholesome, it’s beautiful.”
Director Matt Shapira added that the hopeful message of the movie was the main motivation for everyone who worked on NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.
“When you make a movie, you have a lot of people that help. Every department, every actor, all that from pre production, to production, to even the post production. So if you don’t believe in the message, you really shouldn’t make them,” he said. “So in the movie, it’s about a guy that really has to find his path. A second chance. So for me, I often say, if you look back at your life, and think of the things that you convey to people through your storytelling, getting a second chance, and taking that opportunity, and believing in yourself, and having friends support that as they grow with you, that’s sort of the winner for me.”
“That’s the message of the movie, believing in yourself and having your friends support you as you support them,” he added.
