PETER RABBIT 2 Hops Ahead in Preview Sales
By Movieguide® Staff
Flopsy, Mopsy, Peter, and the gang are venturing far from Mr. McGregor’s garden in PETER RABBIT 2, and preview sales indicate just how excited families are to return to the theaters for a wholesome adventure.
The family-friendly adventure grossed $900K from ticket sales on Thursday, June 10, meaning the Sony feature could bring in more than the $8 million-$10 million the studio originally forecast.
As far as Thursday night comps to Peter Rabbit 2, it’s an apples-to-oranges comparison due to pre-pandemic numbers, however, both Sony’s Emoji Movie and Fox/DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls posted $900K Thursday nights, and respectively went on to $24.5M and $46.5M opening weekends.
Movieguide® praised the new movie for its strong Christian elements.
According to our review:
In the first PETER RABBIT movie in 2018, Peter learns to do the right thing instead of causing trouble. In PETER RABBIT 2: THE RUNAWAY, Peter becomes upset when other people, including a new friend, think he’s the same mischievous troublemaker he used to be. The new friend, an elderly rabbit from the city named Barnabas, is the leader of a gang of animals who steal food from humans to survive. Barnabas entices Peter to bring his family and friends to help the gang heist barrels of dried fruit and veggies from the city’s farmers market.
PETER RABBIT 2 is magical, funny, exciting, and suspenseful, with seamless computer graphics. Although there’s stealing, Peter is like a new Christian who lets the world define who he is by who he used to be instead of who he has become. Besides its Christian, redemptive allegory, PETER RABBIT 2 extols family, friendship, forgiveness, and doing the right thing. However, it also has lots of slapstick violence, some possible Romantic elements and a female pastor in a wedding scene. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.
Movieguide® selected PETER RABBIT as one of the Best Movies for Families in 2018.
