Rabbi Jason Sobel And Nate Buzolic On God: ‘He Is A Promise-Keeper’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Rabbi Jason Sobel and HACKSAW RIDGE actor Nathaniel Buzolic recently teamed up to talk about the trust we can put in God’s promises to us.
“Part of the significance about Israel’s 75th birthday is this, right? God promised that He would restore Israel as a nation,” Sobel started. “No other nation has been dispersed and not have a sovereign state for 2,000 years and comes back, reestablishes in the land, reestablishes their language, against all odds.
“God did it,” he emphasized. “It was a miracle. Israel is a miracle.”
Buzolic chimed in, “And God says, ‘Can a nation be formed in a day? The correct answer should be no, unless God’s involved. And so He has. And so even thinking about their reestablishment, 1948 — now correct me if I’m wrong, but according to the Jewish belief, Abraham was born 1,948 years after the creation. So, God reestablishes this nation not by some chance, not by coincidence, but by the fact that He’s saying, ‘My story, my timing is still in point. Do you believe? Do you trust me?’
“And I think for us as Christians, people could have questioned God’s promises. For 2,000 years, we could have said, ‘Does He really keep His promises? Because He didn’t keep His promise to the Jewish people in Israel,’” the actor continued. “And yet, in 2023, He is a promise-keeper. If I can trust those promises, how much more can I trust the words of Jesus today?”
Sobel frequently teams up with public figures to talk about God’s impact. Movieguide® previously reported on his conversation with Kathie Lee Gifford about God’s timing:
In a recent episode of Kathie Lee Gifford’s GOD OF THE HOW AND WHEN video series, she sat down with Rabbi Jason Sobel, who shared his thoughts on God’s timing.
“God’s timing often trips us up because his timing is not our timing,” Sobel explained. “But the good news is that those who wait upon the Lord are never left wanting. If we wait for the Lord, we’ll never be left wanting, and that’s the promise we have in Isaiah.”
He then cited Isaiah 40:31: “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Sobel concluded, “It’s not easy. Waiting is not easy, but it’s always worth it.”
Gifford posted the video to Instagram, writing, “I hope that [the video will] provide you with a sense of peace and serve as a reminder to trust in God’s timing.”
