Rising Country Star Sits ‘In Awe’ at Doors God Opened for Her

Country music singer Anne Wilson is reflecting on God’s work in her life in a docuseries on YouTube that takes fans behind the scenes.
“I never expected ‘My Jesus’ to do what it has done,” she said of her first major hit in the first episode of her series. “I remember writing that song with Matthew and Jess and feeling like it was such a special song, but I had no idea the impact it was going to have on so many people’s lives.”

But “My Jesus” was just the beginning of the ways God planned to change her life.
“The doors that have opened for me I have been absolutely amazing,” Wilson said recently, “like sometimes I sit in awe and I just can’t believe that my life has gone from a little 15-year-old girl in Kentucky singing at her brother’s funeral to signing a record deal to now, you know, having my second album out, and all the opportunities I’m getting in country music.”
“I never dreamed of any of it,” she added. “I never thought it was even possible. And so to see that all come now, it definitely feels like it’s been a constant flow of opportunities. Since my first song came out three years ago and it’s been really cool to be part of.”
Wilson often expresses her faith through her music, and “My Jesus” captures her feelings after the death of her brother.
“I remember this gut feeling of, ‘I’m going to make a decision right now, I’m either going to trust God or do this all on my own,’” Wilson told American Songwriter after she received the news of her brother’s death. “It’s hard trusting God in moments like that, and it was really hard for me. I knew in my heart that I have to trust God or I’m not going to survive this tragedy, and I think my family felt the same way.”
