Saints New QB Derek Carr Inspired by Oklahoma Softball Player’s Faith

New Orleans Saints quarterback, Derek Carr, told interviewers how inspired he was by the Oklahoma softball player’s boldness to speak the Gospel.

In a post camp press conference Carr stated, “I was just inspired by that video, that even in that moment that’s where their mindset was. What a beautiful thing that is for the younger generation to see, especially this next generation that’s coming. Everybody’s telling them who they should be and all this kind of stuff, and it’s crazy. For those ladies to stand up on their platform, like everyone is allowed to in this country, I thought it was awesome.”

“We’ve had success in this business. It’ll give you happiness for a little bit,” Carr stated in response to Oklahoma’s viral video. “But true joy comes from the Lord.”

In January, Carr spoke at a church about how he has dealt with the highs and lows of his NFL career.

“Aren’t we thankful that whatever it is that God has asked you to do,” Carr expressed in his sermon, “that He can be the one to just say, ‘Why don’t you just put it in My hands? Why don’t you just give it back to Me?’”

Movieguide® recently reported on the Oklahoma softball press conference:

Alyssa Brito, the team’s infielder, explained what the team’s “Eye’s up” mentality mean’s, in which the players point upwards to indicate they are focused on Christ.

“We know this game is giving us opportunities to glorify God. Once we figured that out…it’s really changed so much for us,” she said.

“This isn’t our home. … We have so much more. We have an eternity of joy with our Father, and I’m so excited about that.” she concluded, “No matter what, my sisters in Christ will be there with me in the end, when we’re with our King.”

Carr has been open about his faith before:

“I’m not gonna sit up here and throw Bibles at everybody, but I do have faith and I do believe. That’s how we raise our children, and that’s what the basis of our marriage is on. I love my wife because of the way that I am loved and how I learned that love,” he says in the press conference.

Carr plans to simply love people in his community.

“We just try and always be open to that and what the Lord is saying to us on how to help that community and just love the people of New Orleans,” Carr said. “My faith is No. 1. That’ll never change no matter what, good or bad. And then my family and then football. And I love all three a lot.”
