Many parents are hitting back at pop star Chappell Roan’s negative comments about parenthood, sharing their love of being parents — and their disappointment in the pop star’s statements.
“All of my friends who have kids are in hell. I don’t know anyone who’s happy and has children at this age,” Roan — real name: Kayleigh Rose Amstutz — said during her recent appearance on the popular podcast “Call Her Daddy.”
She added that her friends with children under 5 years old are exhausted and that she hasn’t seen any parent who is “happy, well-rested, or who has light in their eyes.”
An audio clip of this is going viral on TikTok, with many showing Roan just how happy with parenthood they are.
“having kids in the best thing that has ever happened to me and also the most challenging buuuuut worth every second of it!” Dr. Tommy Martin, a doctor and social media influencer, wrote under a video full of clips of his son.
Others posted their feelings about Roan’s interview on X. User Tallow Mom wrote, “Chappell Roan going on call her daddy saying none of her friends with kids are happy is a prime example of why you cannot just vent to anyone. Because I guarantee she has this perspective because a few of her mom friends are going through it.”
One user replied to the tweet, writing, “Her viewpoint was SO out of touch and disappointing. Imagine being those friends that probably had a bad day and confided in her and hearing her spin on their situation on an international podcast. So wrong and so sad. We need to celebrate motherhood.”
“i loveee chappell roan dowwwnn. but her comment about it reinforces the stigma that if you complain about motherhood you must hate your life and your kids,” another X user posted. “motherhood is hard, not miserable and we don’t hate our kids.”

They continued, “I’ve had ‘friends’ tell others what I’ve vented about in private and it’s not fun to see that got back to other people. I would hateee to be the mom friend of hers that watched this knowing she confided in her just for her to go on a podcast and say their life is hell.”
Yaron Litwin, a digital parenting expert and the chief marketing officer of Canopy Parental Control App, told Newsweek that Roan’s comments show “self-selection bias.”
“I don’t know Chappell Roan personally, but almost none of us have a group of friends who are representative of as diverse a group as parents of young children,” he explained.
Litwin added, “We, as parents, are facing daunting challenges the likes of which our own parents did not have to contend with. However, most parents would not trade their kids for the world. I do believe that Chappell may have been overstating the attitudes of parents to raising children in this day and age.”
Ironically, Roan has publicly spoken about how loving her parents are and how supportive they are of her musical career.
“They never put their concerns [surrounding backlash] over my happiness,” the singer said in a 2024 interview. “My parents, they are very supportive in my art.”
She continued, “They just are really good at knowing that Chappell Roan is a character and Kayleigh is their daughter.”
Roan’s negative comments on parenting — and the social media storm they’ve created — have only proved how much people around the world love being moms and dads.
