The Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN) announced that it gained exclusive rights to the critically acclaimed series, THE CHOSEN. The crowd-funded TV series earned over $10 million from 16,000 investors and is in the process of filming Season 2.
The first season, which includes eight episodes, will premiere on Feb. 8 and will continue with one episode every week.
TBN also announced a new original series called THE CHOSEN UNVEILED. The series will feature Rabbi Jason Sobel, who will help explain the theology behind THE CHOSEN.
“We are thrilled to bring this television series to TBN and allow our viewers to experience Jesus in a way that has never been done before,” chairman of TBN Matt Crouch said.
Movieguide® reported previously:
THE CHOSEN is the largest crowd-funded project in Hollywood history, but that’s no accident–it was a provision from God.
“The more free, the more accessible, the more easy we made it for people to watch it, the more income came in for future episodes and seasons,” said creator Dallas Jenkins in a Facebook LIVE interview with NRB.
People have been so generous that Jenkins and his team are a year ahead of schedule in terms of funding for season 2. Season 1 released in 2019.
“This is God’s impossible math,” Jenkins added. “It’s not my job to feed the 5,000, it’s my job to supply the loaves and fish.”
As of August 2020, THE CHOSEN received nearly 50 million views from 180 countries.
Season 2 recently became fully funded and is expected to release around Easter of 2021.
Jenkins said, “We feel a sense of urgency because of COVID-19, because of the social unrest. We feel like the world needs more Jesus right now.”
