THE VOICE Winner Bryce Leatherwood Commends Fellow Contestant and Christian, Bodie

The most recent winner of THE VOICE, Bryce Leatherwood, recently shared about the friendships he made on the show, but also some of his past hardships.

Leatherwood expressed his love for fellow contestant, Bodie, who was a fan-favorite going into the season finale.

“I believe everybody out here has got a whole slew of fans, and Bodie just had probably a couple more than me out there in the crowd, you know,” Leatherwood told The Christian Post in a recent interview. “Hey, that’s cool. I love Bodie, and who’s to blame them? If I was in the crowd I’d be cheering Bodie, too. It’s just a blessing, man. There are so many incredible artists on this season and I’m just glad I get to represent all of them as the winner. I’m very proud to say that.”

Bodie serves alongside his wife at a local Christian university’s worship collective and chose to sing ‘Gratitude’ by famous Christian artist Brandon Lake.

Despite his second place finish, Bodie said that he is excited for what the future has in store for his music career.

“I am so excited to finally be free and make music and do the things I want to do. You guys are about to see some of the coolest stuff I’ve ever done happen this year,” he said.

The father of three recently reflected on his bout with depression, and how his relationship with God helped him through a rough season of life.

“I got tired of seeing songs on the radio popup that kind of romanticize the idea of depression, romanticize the idea of let’s be sad together. I guess I kind of paid more attention after that or noticed the rising rate of suicide in young adults. It just started to anger me in a way that I can’t really explain,” Bodie said in a video from earlier this month.

“I understand that it’s not just an easy switch to flip off or filp on,” he continued. “Just like a regular breakup, it’s painful and it takes time to heal. Maybe your journey doesn’t look exactly like mine, but for me, it wasn’t until I connected with God that and realized where true joy and true freedom came from.”

In 2020 he said:

“It’s been a season of overworking and under sleeping to provide for my family, but as I lean more in to what God has to say, the more I discover… the more I learn… the more I receive,” he wrote. “if you’re in a season of fear, anxiety, hopelessness or loneliness, there’s plenty of hope and fulfillment to go around. hit up your boy, let’s talk.”

Movieguide® previously reported of Leatherwood’s win:

Bryce Leatherwood, the latest VOICE champ, opened up about what it’s like to be crowned the winner of the singing competition show.

“I was lying in bed Monday night trying to go to sleep before the big day on Tuesday,” he shared. “I was just lying there, and I was like, ‘Man, you have a one in five shot at winning this show.’ Still, even then, I didn’t think that it was possible. But America loved Bryce Leatherwood and it was so incredible to see. It’s so humbling and so beautiful.”

Leatherwood also spoke about what it was like to be coached by Blake Shelton.

“I have to thank him for leading me down the path of being myself and just sticking true to who I am and never wavering from that,” the singer said.

He continued, “I think that’s something to say, especially in this business where people have a lot of ideas about what you should be, not who you are. I plan to stick true to who I am, but also be adaptable, be flexible to other sounds and other ideas. He’s taught me in a lot of ways to be adaptable but always remain true to who you are.”
