Tom Holland announced that, unlike other Marvel movies, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY won’t favor the sound stage.

“I’m obviously over the moon and so excited,” Holland said. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal, and I think we were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID. We shot the entire film on stages.”

“Now we’re really gonna lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow,” he explained. “We are gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we are putting together.”

He said it will feel like they’re making the first SPIDER-MAN movie again, SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING.

“It’s been such a long time that I’ve done it that it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air,” he said. “I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

He told fans at CinemaCon that the movie will be — like the title implies — a new beginning.

“I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of NO WAY HOME, where Peter Parker sacrificed his identity to save the people that he loves most in the world,” Holland said. “So, SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is a fresh start. It is exactly that.”

“That’s all I can say. That’s all I’ve been allowed to say, and I’m well over the hump of giving away spoilers,” he said. “So don’t you worry: I’m not gonna do that today.”

Each of Holland’s SPIDER-MAN movies has been a success at the box office. And SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME won a Movieguide® Teddy Bear Award®.

Marvel has kept the plot for BRAND NEW DAY hush-hush so far, but we do know Jon Bernthal will star as the Punisher, and Sadie Sink will star in an unknown role. Zendaya will return as MJ, and Jacob Batalon will return as Ned.

Aside from filming STRANGER THINGS’ last season, Sink has been busy on Broadway. She’s currently in the Searchlight musical, O’DESSA. Her next act is JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN, which opens next year on April 4, Deadline reported.

Holland has a lot of history with the other cast. He and Zendaya are engaged to each other, and Bernthal and Holland have known each other for almost a decade. They worked on PILGRIMAGE, and helped each other with their Marvel audition tapes, The Hollywood Reporter said. He’s also close friends with Batalon, like their characters in the movies are.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY comes out July 31, 2026.
