UCF Placekicker Praises God After Game-Winning Field Goal

Colton Boomer, a sophomore placekicker for the University of Central Florida (UCF) football team, praised God after he sealed the game with a 40-yard field goal.

UCF is currently 2-0 this season, and during their game against Boise State, the team struggled to get the ball from the red zone to the end zone.

UCF relied on Boomer for three big-time field goals during the game—one 50 yards out, the next at 55 yards and the third, with the game on the line, 40 yards out.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Gus Malzahn said, “What can you say about Boomer? A 50 and then a 55-yard field goal and then a 40-yarder with the game on the line? He’s one of the best kickers in college football. It doesn’t get any tougher than that on the road.”

“What a big-time quality win for our program on the road,” the coach added. “It was hard earned. There are a lot of things looking back that we’ve got to correct. (Boise State) had something to do with some of them. There were a lot of things that went against us tonight, but we kept fighting.”

Later, Boomer shared a video of the incredible win on his Instagram. The kicker said, “Praise God! Thank you, Lord! Romans 8:28”

Romans 8:28 reads, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

In the video, Boomer reads the Bible and prays in the locker before the game.

After the game, the kicker explained what goes through his mind during big moments like that.

“I’ll just focus on the process,” Boomer said. “I just feel the Holy Spirit in my body, that supernatural ability. But it definitely helps when the louder they cheer, the better I do so you can keep it coming,” he laughed in response to the question.

After he made the game-winning field goal, he shared, “I was just screaming, ‘Praise God’…That was just all Him.”

During a press conference, a reporter asked Boomer, “Have you ever dreamed of a moment like this? With the game on the line, already having a big night and then winning it.”

“I wouldn’t say I dream of it,” Boomer stated. “It’s just my job. I wanted the team to do their best and if that means I have to go out there and do my job, that just comes with it so I’m just happy we got the team win.”

UCF Football shared on its social media account, “Colton Boomer named the @big12conference Special Teams Player of the Week.”
