Three weeks into its release, UNSUNG HERO landed the No. 3 spot at the domestic box office as families across the country celebrated Mother’s Day.

“From Mom and the Unsung family, thank you so much for making the movie #3 in America three weeks into its release! 🎬” for KING + COUNTRY wrote on Instagram. “Let’s make every day Mother’s Day! 💕😊”

UNSUNG HERO was the perfect Mother’s Day movie, celebrating the power that a strong mother has on the lives of her children. The movie honors Luke and Joel Smallbone’s mother, Helen, and the way that she kept their family together after moving to America.

“The film is a love letter to motherhood and mothers,” said co-director Richard L. Ramsey before the movie’s release. “I really love the way the film explores that different people in your lives saw needs and acted and that’s a miracle in its own way.”

The movie, however, is great for all audiences as any person can relate to the story and see themselves as one of the “unsung heroes” who saved the family.

“It is titled UNSUNG HERO, and I think, depending on the viewer and the stage of life, you see yourself in the story,” Joel told Movieguide®. “If you’re an 18-year-old girl, Rebecca, my sister, becomes sort of your unsung hero. And if you’re a mom and a wife, then my mom, Helen, is just such a great figure in real life and in the picture.”

“And if you’re a husband or a father, and you’re trying to navigate your way through…wanting to protect and wanting to lift up your wife and your family, then you relate to David’s character,” he continued.

The wide appeal of the movie was seen through its debut, nabbing the No. 2 spot at the box office. It’s uplifting story and widespread appeal has continued to draw in a large audience three weeks later.

The family-friendly flick grossed $7.8 million, per Box Office Mojo.

Based on for KING + COUNTRY’s Joel and Luke Smallbone’s family, the movie sees the Smallbones move from Australia to the United States in the ‘90s after their father, David, loses his music company.

“The heartbeat behind the movie is this: I believe in the power of family. I think family is more important today than it ever has been in the history of the world,” Luke told Mike Huckabee.

Movieguide® praised UNSUNG HERO’s focus on family, “sacrificial love, faith, honor, and courage through various trials.”
