What Disney shows are heading your way? GOOD MORNING AMERICA’s Rebecca Jarvis sat down with Dana Walden, Co-Chairman, Disney Entertainment, to discuss the biggest TV shows coming from Disney.

“Our parent company, Disney unveiling its new star-filled roster with a number of hit shows and movies everyone will be talking about, and live events to keep us all on the edge of our seats. All the magic is coming to a screen near you,” Jarvis began.

Walden then discussed some of her favorites that will be released or renewed for another season.

“New seasons of our favorites like THE BEAR and ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING. Then we’ve got a spectacular new series based on the film franchise ALIEN. And it is scary and emotional and compelling and truly riveting,” Walden said.

“Ryan Murphy has two new shows coming for fall — one with an all-star cast, that’s ALL’S FAIR. Another show called THE BEAUTY with Ashton Kutcher,” she added.

Walden then touched on the shows for the younger Disney fans.

“For our youngest fans, we have new installments of the ZOMBIES franchise and a new season of PHINEAS AND FERB,” she said.

Walden also reflected on the Disney Upfront presentation and how the company tailors its content to its many audiences.

“It has changed so much, as we all know,” Walden said of the presentation that shares upcoming movies and streaming content with advertisers, stakeholders and the media. “You know, consumer habits are changing all the time. People have, you know, individual ways of watching whether they want to watch on demand on a streaming service or they want to watch live on linear. The Upfronts are now a celebration of the portfolios of a company like ours.”

This has ultimately helped different shows thrive in different arenas.

“When we think about programming ABC with a great show like HIGH POTENTIAL, ultimately, what we know we’re doing is we’re programming it on ABC. And 50% of its audience — they’re going to watch it live,” she said. “They want to be the first people to be able to see the show. And then the other 50%, largely a younger audience, are going to watch on Hulu, and Hulu is on Disney+. It’s really a distribution ecosystem that gives consumers a full choice of where they want to watch the shows.”

So, then, how does Disney create a community within separate “ecosystems?”

“It’s really live events that I think are driving that real communal experience right now throughout entertainment,” Walden explained. “Actually, the year after next, ABC will be the home to the Oscars, the Grammys, and the Super Bowl. And those will be three extraordinary opportunities to bring incredibly large groups of people together — watching the same thing, sharing the same experience.”

Following Disney’s upfront presentation, ABC released its fall primetime schedule, which is packed full of hit shows like DANCING WITH THE STARS, SHIFTING GEARS, 9-1-1 and CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE.

“ABC dominated this season in multiplatform ratings, which are the most relevant metrics that reflect how audiences are consuming television today,” Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, said in a press release. “We are meeting viewers where they are, and this achievement really highlights our strategic approach and commitment to creative excellence. Looking ahead, we’re all about maintaining stability, delivering quality, and driving innovation, with new shows and returning favorites from some of the industry’s top creators and biggest stars.”

Though the entertainment landscape is always changing, some things remain constant, like new shows from Disney.
