Why Ryan Stevenson’s Music Speaks to ‘Tragedy, Deep Pain, Loss’

Christian musician Ryan Stevenson discussed the heart behind his music and how his past experiences allow him to create songs that speak to real life.

“I think that my prayer is that people would all truly just begin to come to know who we are as sons and daughters of the King, be rooted and established in our beloved identity,” Stevenson told 700 Club Interactive. “I think it’s paramount.”

“I don’t think we can do much of anything until we really begin to understand who are in Christ,” the singer continued. “That’s something that I struggled with for a lot of years, and I’m really coming to feel like the Lord’s had me on a journey coming into the fullness of that, and that’s what I want everybody to know.”

His music has certainly helped him on this mission as hit songs like “Speak Life” and “Eye of the Storm” have reached millions and brought them closer to Christ. His music is especially impactful to many because of the real-life scenarios that he speaks to — experiences that he gained an intimate understanding of while working as a paramedic before his music career took off.

“I’m not talking about sugarcoated, vague stuff. Like, I’m talking about people really in the midst of tragedy and deep pain, deep loss and just seeing that, having my hands in [those] experience[s],” Stevenson explained. “It was easy to then, years later, write songs about what people are actually struggling with because I dealt with it for all those years. So I feel like it gave me an ability and insight and a perspective to put that human condition into, hopefully, songs that in turn just reach back and help them.”

“It’s bizarre, but the Lord is just brilliant with how He crafts and weaves our story together, and I just go with it,” he added.

Stevenson’s songs still touch millions today as he continues to create songs that speak to real life. He recently released a new EP called “Sails” and is excited for the other projects currently in the pipeline.

He also dropped a sneak peek at an unreleased song called “Landmines.”

“A lot of relationships under attack; marriages strained; heavy hearts. Writing this one to encourage families to fight for unity, love and peace together! SHOULD I RECORD THIS ONE???? – lemme know in the comments!” he posted.

Christian artist Ryan Stevenson shared how his experience as a paramedic allowed him to launch a music career.

Stevenson grew up interested in music but chose to pursue medicine. After two years of paramedic school, he became a full-time paramedic for seven years. During this time, he was an amateur musician, playing at open mic nights and writing his own songs—something he had been doing since high school.

While he still dreamed about music, his steady, comfortable job kept him from risking a music career. However, that changed after responding to a call about a lightning strike.

When he arrived at the scene, he saw a woman in her 30s who had been stuck by lightning and had gone into cardiac arrest. She had been unconscious for nearly ten minutes, and Stevenson didn’t think she would make it. However, he and his team loaded her into the ambulance and resuscitated her. Miraculously, she began to come back, and by the time they got to the hospital, she had a steady heartbeat and blood pressure.

Months later, the woman connected with Stevenson, and they became friends. Once, she asked what he would do if he wasn’t a paramedic.

“My dream is to do music full-time, to make a living playing music and helping people and ministering to people through my songs,” he recalled telling her, per Fox News.
