Why THE FORGE Actress Urges Us to Set Aside Sin

THE FORGE actress Priscilla Shirer is explaining why it’s important to live holy — and that doesn’t just mean going to church.
“The one thing that opens up our eyes is God’s spirit on us. And if you want, if I want God’s spirit on our lives, then we got to decide to live holy,” Shirer said to an audience on TBN’s PRAISE. “I implore you, by the mercies of God, to lay aside every sin, every hindrance, anything that is keeping you entangled so that you cannot run with endurance the race that is set before you.”
“Any relationship, separate at the pass so that you can walk holy, sister. Any addiction, any habit, any lifestyle choice that is keeping you from being free and walking in victory in Jesus’ name, let it go by the power of the Holy Spirit so that he can rest on your life,” the OVERCOMER actress proclaimed. “Going to church is good, but it’s not enough.”
She added that reading your Bible isn’t enough. It’s really all about walking with Christ.
“It’s not perfection. It’s a call to yield to the power of the Holy Spirit in you so that you do not give way to all the desires of your flesh. What it means is that you have not chosen as a lifestyle, an attitude or an action that you already know is displeasing to God.”
“You know upfront that you’ve already got on your calendar after this is over, a place you’re going or a person you’re seeing that you know that you don’t have any business being in a relationship with, but you’ve already scheduled sin into your calendar. I’m saying walk away from everything that is keeping you from having the biggest, most amazing blessing you can have in your life, and that is God’s presence marking you,” she finished.
Movieguide® has awarded Shirer with multiple Teddy Bear Awards®, as she’s done an exemplary job of performing in faith-based and family movies.
Her latest movie, THE FORGE, came out last month. Movieguide® recently reported:
Shirer’s own experience as a mom to sons…sparked her interest in taking on the role.
“The film is about a young man who is trying to come into manhood, but as a single mom, and you can do it successfully, but there are going to be little gaps in handing a boy his man card,” Shirer explained. “Another man has to fill in some of those spaces and just exemplifying for him what it looks like to be a man who is responsible, has character and integrity. And is loving towards his family and is responsible towards his work and work ethic.
“Really, all of those things and the example of another male doing it, and I’m saying this from the perspective of being a mother of three sons,” she continued. “And just realizing the impact their dad’s example or their grandfathers or uncles or coaches in my sons’ lives who have come along and have cared more about character and integrity than they did just about athleticism. That sort of impact in the life of a young man is huge.”
“I just knew the impact of that on my own sons’ lives,” she said.
She relates strongly with the mother in the movie and thinks she’d behave the same way if put in the same position.
“I love it because that’s so me. I love you son but let me tell you what you’re not gonna do. And so I love that we see a woman with some grit who is a mother that is challenging her son to achieve his best but she’s not going to enable him to just lay around and not show up to the party,” she told Heart and Soul.
“She has requirements of him for his life especially when he’s living underneath the roof of her house. And so I like seeing her grit but also her trust in the Lord that ultimately, it is going to be prayer along with some other strong sisters that join her praying and asking God to do something in the life of her son.”
