Why the PenaVegas Left Houseboat Life for ‘Amazing’ Nashville

Carlos and Alexa PenaVega left their houseboat to establish themselves in Nashville, and they found an amazing community.
Since they began having kids, the couple has lived in Maui, on a boat and now in Nashville. Carlos originally had the idea to live on a boat during Covid when he kept up with a family through social media that was sailing the world during lockdowns. That life was extremely appealing to him, and shortly after, he and his family moved onto a boat. Two years later, they have left the ocean life and are now living in Nashville.
“We’ve had to sacrifice opportunities and finances just to make sure that we retain that family dynamic of like…a mom who’s present and a dad who’s present and parents that are together and present. I think our kids are thriving because we’re making them a priority so, honestly, whether its living in Maui, living on a tour bus, living on a boat, living here, our close-knit [relationship] hasn’t changed,” they told Movieguide®.

“It is nice to have a little more space,” the continued. “The boat was a challenge. It was awesome but, you know, there were very thin walls separating us and our children and you also couldn’t really relax.”
Despite the challenges, the couple enjoyed living on the boat and only left for Nashville because they felt God calling them to that community.
“Lex and I were both up one night in our room after putting the kids to sleep and I was like, ‘You know, I have been feeling that God is calling us to go check out Tennessee.’ She was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I have been feeling the same thing,’” Carlos recalled. “I said, ‘Well, what should we do?’ She’s like, ‘Let’s get in the car right now and just go.’ So, we literally packed our bags… we threw the kids in the car and we drove 13 hours to Tennessee and the rest is history.”
“We started looking at places to rent and then to buy and the Lord just called us quickly,” he continued. “And we are crazy enough that the second the Lord calls us to something, we jump. We don’t really wait or hesitate, we’re like all right, let’s go.”
“Living here has been amazing,” Alexa added. “I would say it’s been the most life-giving place I’ve ever lived. I mean this feels like home. The people here are relational and you can feel His spirit in this place, it’s awesome.”
They first opened up about their movie in a March Instagram post, telling their followers that God “pulled us out of our comfort zone and now more than ever we have to trust and rely on him with everything.”
“The peace and confirmation we receive daily has been unlike anything we have ever felt before. SO… If God is calling you to something…RUN don’t walk! Nothing like leaping right into what God has waiting for you,” they encouraged.

The PenaVegas also have a new movie, GET HIM BACK FOR CHRISTMAS, coming out Dec. 14.
“We have tons of original music and let me tell you… you will LOVE this movie 🙂 A fresh take on a Christmas love story with a fun ensemble cast!!!” the couple wrote on an Instagram post. “We were blessed with being able to shoot one whole day at #attstadium and even had the @dccheerleaders in the movie! Not to mention shining a light on all the good that @salvationarmyus does in the world. It’s the full package!!! Mark your calendars!”
