DANGEROUS ANIMALS

What You Need To Know:

DANGEROUS ANIMALS is the new shark killer movie. It has picked the time to be released, with this year, 2025, marking the 50th anniversary of JAWS. This time, however, the sharks have lots of help. A killer maniac kidnaps people and brings them out to sea. He then chains them up and feeds them to the sharks for his own dark and twisted fantasies. He can’t keep getting away with it forever, though. When he tries to kill the protagonist, an expert surfer, she fights back and ends up getting the better of him. She gets help from a man she just met who came searching for her.

DANGEROUS ANIMALS is well paced, with lots of jeopardy and a positive worldview about stopping a serial killer. Some of the violent scenes are hard to watch, however. Also, the ending drags on too long and introduces obsolete points that should’ve been cut because they serve no purpose. DANGEROUS ANIMALS also has excessive foul language, extreme bloody violence and a bedroom scene. So, despite its positive aspects, MOVIEGUIDE® rates DANGEROUS ANIMALS too gruesome and obscene.

More Detail:

DANGEROUS ANIMALS is a new 2025 horror movie. Every year there is one surprising horror movie that comes out and isn’t a cheap cash grab. We can all see those coming. Those movies that were made for really cheap, include a jumpscare or two, then get released to the public. They are always bad and still somehow get made. While this isn’t a standout, generational horror film, it’s not a cheap cash grab.

Like any normal horror movie, DANGEROUS ANIMALS starts with a cold open. A young couple, Greg and Heather, sleep and miss a boat excursion with their friends. So, they decided to go on their own. They meet Tucker, who takes them out to swim with sharks. They get lowered in a cage and get to be around sharks. Once pulled out, Tucker stabs Greg and pushes him into the water so that the sharks can feed on him.

Cut to two other characters, Zephyr and Moses. Moses needs help jumping his car and threatens to blackmail Zephyr since she stole an ice cream container. She helps him and then they end up in bed together. Moses gets up the next morning, but she drives away. She parks at the beach. While getting ready to go surfing, Tucker kidnaps her.

Zephyr wakes up chained to a bed next to Heather. They are in Tucker’s boat, floating in the ocean. Zephyr keeps trying to break the bedframe and the chain she is handcuffed with, when Heather talks about her regrets. Zephyr notices that Heather’s bikini top has an under wire. Heather tosses over her bikini top and Zephyr pulls the wire out. Right when this happens, Tucker comes in with food and some water. They both drink the water. When Tucker leaves, Zephyr tries to pick the lock to her handcuff. However, the water is drugged, and they both passed out.

Zephyr wakes on a fishing chair, Heather in a harness. After a little speech from Tucker, he uses a crane to hoist Heather up in the air and lower her into the water. Once in, she gets eaten by sharks. Tucker not only forces Zephyr to watch, he also records it.

The next day, Zephyr prepares for an attack. She takes the handle of the poop bucket in her cell and snaps it, giving her a sharp weapon to use. Tucker comes into the room and Zephyr stabs him in the collar and frees herself. Before she could escape, Tucker manages to come to, chase her down and even inject her with some drugs. Zephyr jumps overboard and tries to swim away, but gets pulled back in.

Meanwhile, Moses is becoming suspicious. He looks through some security cameras and manages to see Tucker’s truck. He uses the logo to find Tucker’s shark swimming business. He then tries to find her. He gets to the boat and manages to find Zephyr. When he attempts to call the police, Tucker finds him and a fight ensues. Moses is about to win before Tucker’s neighbor saves Tucker. Tucker responds by swinging a hook into his neighbor’s skull, killing him.

Tucker then puts Moses in a harness and lowers him in the water. He manages to not get attacked by sharks. So, Tucker brings him back on board and stabs him. Afterward, he puts him back over the water. That is when a helicopter flies by and they have to postpone that. Tucker locks Moses and Zephyr in the room together. Zepher tries to escape the handcuffs by breaking her thumb. Will she succeed?

DANGEROUS ANIMALS is well made, with lots of intense jeopardy. It has good pacing and keeps things interesting, although it can be hard to watch at times. There are a few complaints, however. It has a problem overusing booms and sci-fi audio. It really becomes overwhelming how often a boom sound effect is played. It also uses too many science fiction sound cues that don’t fit the movie’s genre. The ending also loses its footing and goes on for too long. It introduces problems that are obsolete and get solved or abandoned within seconds.

DANGEROUS ANIMALS has a light moral, redemptive worldview where the lead female character and her new boyfriend courageously try to stop the serial killer. The vicious villain not only kills people, he says God isn’t on His throne in Heaven but in the ocean with the sharks. Also, when Zephyr first meets Moses, he’s wearing a suit. She thinks he’s a Mormon, but Moses says he’s selling apartments, not eternal salvation. Of course, Mormonism is a false religion, so you won’t find eternal salvation if you become a Mormon. DANGEROUS ANIMALS also has excessive foul language, bloody violence and a bedroom scene. So, despite its positive aspects, MOVIEGUIDE® rates DANGEROUS ANIMALS too gruesome and obscene.
