More Detail:

LET IT SNOW is a 2013 movie airing on Great American Family. It’s a wonderful Christmas movie with plenty of holiday spirit.

Stephanie Beck is a big-time executive at her callous father’s company. She’s sent to a rustic winter family lodge over the Christmas holiday to create a plan to turn the “mom and pop” Christmas wonderland into a trendy world-class resort. In a surprise twist, the hardened career oriented young woman falls in love with Christmas, the lodge and the owner’s son. This holiday treat is suitable for all audiences.

In the story, Stephanie Beck marches to the orders of her emotionally unavailable father, Ted Beck, who’s played by the beloved late Alan Thicke who starred as America’s favorite dad, Dr. Jason Seaver, in the 1980s hit sitcom, GROWING PAINS. Ted is a workaholic who has no time for family-life. Stephanie desires a relationship with her distant father, so she does everything to try to please him.

However, he carelessly sends his daughter last minute to a rustic family run lodge over the Christmas holidays. Ted wants a cohesive plan on how to make the lodge a trendy world-class destination spot. Stephanie is completely on board with this plan. She kicks into high-gear with every intention of working straight through the holidays.

When she arrives at the lodge, however, it appears she’s gone back into time. The family-oriented gem has a slow pace, warm hugs, and enough Christmas spirit to soften the hardest hearted humbugger.

Stephanie is resistant to the festivities at first, claiming she doesn’t care for Christmas much. With some prodding and time spent with Brady, the owner’s handsome son, the ice in her heart begins to melt. Stephanie recalls happier times in her childhood when her mother was alive. Times her family celebrated Christmas and her crusty-mannered father joyfully even dressed up as Santa Claus.

Stephanie changes course and wants to keep the long-standing Christmas traditions alive at the lodge. However, her business orientated, single-minded father has only one plan in mind – to destroy the existing lodge and start over.

LET IT SNOW includes wonderful Christian traditions. One such tradition traces back to St. Thomas, which is slightly superstitious but light-hearted. Other Christian traditions celebrated are Advent, The 12 Days of Christmas, the 7 Fishes, and Christmas carols. The dialogue is a bit wordy in places, but the good acting of Candace Cameron Bure, who plays Stephanie, and Jesse Hutch, who portrays her love-interest, Brady, help carry the movie to success.

Christmas carols abound in LET IT SNOW, with a special highlight of “Silent Night.” A child asks an adult if she believes in Christmas. A main character stresses the importance of doing what is right and exclaims that “Christmas reminds about what’s important in life.” She describes the season as a gift of love. Have some tissues handy. Because there are some very touching moments about repairing relationships in LET IT SNOW.

LET IT SNOW set the standard on Cable TV for Christmas romances back in 2013. Current producers and filmmakers would do well to re-examine it and find out what makes it tick.
