MIDDLE SCHOOL: THE WORST YEARS OF MY LIFE

(RoRo, ABAB, B, E, L, V, S, A, MMM) Strong Romantic worldview focuses on following your heart rather than obeying authority, with a high emphasis on “overthrowing the institution” and breaking rules because they don’t make sense to the middle school students, and movie’s morality is quite backwards and anti-biblical in that breaking rules and rebelling against authority are glorified and celebrated, mitigated by some moral elements and pro-family elements, plus light environmentalist elements when one girl depicted as an activist for animal and environmental rights; one light obscenity referring to genital area, three light profanities, a couple “f” word substitutes, a lot of name-calling and crude humor, a high amount of words like “dork,” “loser,” “buttwipe,” “crap,” etc., and principal refers to his reproductive organs, plus some toilet humor such as students change the sound of the school bell to a sound of passing gas, and the daughter tells the boyfriend that she and the dog urinated on his jacket; comical slapstick and cartoon violence includes a couple pratfalls, boy’s drawing turns into a two-headed monster cartoon that tries to blast boy’s alarm clock, cartoon monster’s heads come off, but grow back, mother’s obnoxious boyfriend turns into a cartoon bear, who knocks a deer aside to head over to an attractive woman, beehive hits cartoon bear’s head, and bear comically runs into things while getting stung, car driven through trash cans, car deliberately scratched, cartoon gorilla and shark try to stop cartoon zombie, principal throws boy’s sketchbook into acid, and school bully grabs hero and puts him into a headlock to mess his hair, plus a reference to a younger brother dying of cancer; implied fornication as mother allows her fiancée to live with her and her kids; no nudity but a brief reference to drawing female body parts although nothing is shown; light alcohol use, no drunkenness; no smoking or drugs; and, a high amount of miscellaneous content, including main characters have a very dysfunctional family, siblings argue quite a bit and call each other names, children blatantly disrespect teachers and principals, movie mocks authority figures and portrays them as stupid and unknowing, mom’s boyfriend is very rude to the children and slightly abuses the dog, a few examples of blackmail, miscellaneous bad role models, pranks (like putting dye into school’s sprinkler system and making them go off), and strong moral relativism.
