More Detail:
The video, PETER AND PAUL, was originally broadcast as a television mini-series in 1981 and stars Anthony Hopkins as Paul and Robert Foxworth as Peter. The movie starts out with Paul presiding over the stoning of Stephen. On the road to Damascus, he is struck down by a light and blinded. Peter meets with Paul and realizes that his conversion to Jesus Christ is genuine. Paul says that God told him to spread the word about Christ’s salvation first to the Jews and then to the Gentiles. Paul encourages the Jews to practice the law, but not to impose it on the Gentiles. The most captivating part of the movie is at the end when Paul and Peter are united on salvation through grace and faith in Christ. When Paul is brought before Caesar, he is convicted as a Roman citizen. When Peter hears of Paul’s death, he is only more encouraged to spread the word of God.
This is a well-produced, well-acted production that examines the beginnings of the early church. This is not a literal translation from the Bible, but a dramatization although a lot of the dialogue comes right from the Bible. This is a movie that adults will enjoy more than children. It is dialogue intensive and scenes where there could have been action where extremely abbreviated. Nevertheless, this video demonstrates one of the best example of the challenges and personalities behind the beginnings of the early church.
