THE BALLAD OF RAMBLIN’ JACK is a humorous and intriguing peek into the life of Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, one of the key men who inspired the folk music craze of the 60s. Written and directed by his daughter Aiyana, who traveled with Jack during his days on the road, this documentary received the special jury prize for artistic achievement at the 2000 Sundance film festival.
This documentary primarily is a wonderful collection of interviews with Ramblin’ Jack, his family and friends, home videos, clips, and pictures of Jack and his mentor Woodie Guthrie, as well as his protege, Bob Dylan. Along with telling the story of her father, Aiyana captures on tape the struggles she encounters while attempting to connect with her father during the time they spend together. The family conflict that is introduced into the documentary adds depth and emotion to the movie.
